Job Overview:
As an Animal Care Specialist, you will be an essential member of the sow production team. Key Responsibilities:
Conduct daily evaluations of sow and piglet health, identifying and addressing medical or behavioral concerns promptly
Maintain timely and accurate records of health status, treatments, breeding activity, and farrowing outcomes
Ensure optimal animal comfort by monitoring and adjusting the barn environment as needed
Administer high-quality feed and water to animals daily, ensuring consistency and proper nutrition
Move, sort, and handle animals safely for routine care, breeding, and facility transfers
Maintain a clean and sanitary facility through routine pressure washing and upkeep
Assist with maintenance and operation of farrowing and breeding equipment
Adhere to strict biosecurity and animal welfare protocols at all times
Work closely with team members and farm leadership to ensure smooth daily operations
Perform other duties as assigned to support team and animal well-being
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and being on your feet for extended periods
Willingness to work in environments with manure, dust, odors, animal dander, and variable temperatures
Must not own personal pigs (for biosecurity reasons)
Team-oriented with excellent communication skills and a commitment to high standards in animal welfare
Physical & Environmental Requirements:
Must be able to remain in a stationary or walking position over 70% of the time
Frequent bending, twisting, and reaching to assist animals or complete maintenance
Ability to operate animal care tools and ascend ladders for equipment maintenance
Frequent lifting and transporting of animals/equipment weighing 50-75 lbs; occasionally up to 100 lbs

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:
Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.

Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.

Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.

Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.

SSVM is a new and innovative veterinary teaching hospital for small animals, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. The teaching hospital is designed to accommodate multiple specialty departments, including anesthesia, cardiology, dermatology, dentistry and oral surgery, diagnostic imaging, emergency/critical care, exotics, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, primary care, and surgery.
Key Responsibilities for this Role:
* Perform digital radiographs and assist with running advanced imaging modalities such as Ultrasound, CT and MRI procedures under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian.
* Demonstrate the knowledge and proper use of radiographic equipment in regard to collimation, MA, Time and KVP.
* Demonstrate the basic knowledge of radiation physics with the ability to teach Veterinary Students the basic principles.
* Maintain a working knowledge of the Radiology Information System (RIS) for patient examination ordering, client charges, reporting, scheduling and patient flow through the Diagnostic Service.
* Maintain a working knowledge of the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) for storage of all Diagnostic Imaging Studies.
* Prepare and position small animals and exotic animals for imaging using safe restraint techniques.
* Administer sedation and monitor patients during procedures.
* Demonstrate the ability to produce quality imaging in an advanced imaging modality with a high level of understanding of the basic operations of that equipment.
* Operate and maintain imaging equipment; troubleshoot issues as needed.
* Assist with fluoroscopic procedures (e.g., dynamic trachea evaluations, barium studies, myelograms, cystograms, and urethrograms).
* Maintain accurate records.
* Enforce and demonstrate radiation safety protocols and proper shielding with lead attire and monitoring with film badges.
* Train and mentor staff under the guidance of the radiologist.
* Collaborate with veterinarians and technicians to ensure efficient workflow and patient care.

What You'll Do

In this role, you will:
Assist ICU nurses and doctors with patient treatments, triage, diagnostics, and monitoring

Administer medications and help maintain accurate medical records
Support the coordination of patient discharges, laboratory submissions, and follow-up communications
Maintain organization and cleanliness of the ICU, treatment, and support areas

SSVM is a new and innovative veterinary teaching hospital for small animals, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment.
