Cobb Vet Clinic a full-service mixed animal hospital specializing in some of the most advanced veterinary care available. The vast majority of our patients come to us for their first puppy/kitten visit and stay for life. Our large animal hospital focuses on equine medicine & surgery, reproduction, sports medicine and rehab.
We welcome DVMs of all experience levels! Our ideal candidate is a creative and driven veterinarian who is looking for coworkers that feel like family. While we cater to both large and small animals, we have a strong need for a predominately small animal doctor with a passion for surgery. However, any doctor is welcome to build out their own large animal caseload since we have the means to support it!

Position Overview
As an Operations Specialist in Animal Care, your role will be to ensure that proper animal care and husbandry is being provided for all companion animals and aquatic life in the Pet Care Center (PCC). You'll be the primary resource regarding animal care and maintenance. This position will support the achievement of the PCC's budgeted sales and shrink goals. You'll ensure our merchandising and inventory strategies are executed across the Pet Care Center with your primary focus in companion animals and aquatic life. You will ensure the efficient and effective operations of the Pet Care Center in close partnership with the sales team to meet the needs of the guest and their pet/s. You can excel in this role by exhibiting a passion for the welfare, health, and proper care of animals as well as being a positive partner within the whole Pet Care Center team.

* Act as primary resource for guests and other PCC partners regarding all animal education and care.
* Efficiently orders companion animals and aquatic life, supplies and merchandise in partnership with the sales team to maximize sales, margin, and inventory.
* Analyzes department inventory management data and recommends areas for improvement.
* Perform routine housekeeping tasks as required to maintain the professional image and appearance of the companion animal habitat and aquatic areas, to include sweeping/mopping the floors, dusting, cleaning the tanks, facing the merchandise on the shelves, etc.
* Ensures the proper handling and documentation for all relinquished and adoption animals.
* Verifies animal related maintenance tasks are being completed as outlined on the Maintenance Schedules.
* Participates in the completion of all animal and aquatic life related physical inventory counts.
* Adheres to and promotes established safety and loss prevention procedures.
* Performs additional duties and projects as required or assigned with or without regular supervision.

Basic Qualifications
Minimum of one year of experience working with and/or caring for companion animals and aquatic life is required for this position. Qualified applicants will possess a high level of knowledge of companion animals and aquatic life and an aptitude for sales techniques. In addition to having a professional appearance and demeanor, applicants must also demonstrate a keen and genuine interest in animals and their care. Good interpersonal and verbal communication skills are necessary due to the nature of interaction with the public and other partners and leaders within the PCC as well as external veterinary partners.
Certification
Completing and maintaining of the Petco Animal Care Certification program is required in this role.
Education/Skills
In addition to a high school diploma or its equivalent (GED), an applicant must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the areas of mathematics and basic accounting relationships and exhibit exceptional communication skills.
Supervisory Responsibility
* Ensures that the Pet Care Center is opened and / or closed in accordance with established P&Ps as it applies to SFS operations.
* Adhere to and promote established safety procedures for partners, guests, and pets.
Work Environment
The majority of job duties are conducted indoors, although guest carryouts and veterinary visits will require that a partner leave the PCC briefly. Because this position requires bending, kneeling, moving merchandise (up to 50 pounds, as necessary) and standing for long periods of time, there may be risk of injury resulting from not following procedures. Ability and willingness to a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends to meet PCC needs.

Able to submit a specimen with paperwork to Austin lab for rabies analysis.
Able to operate two two-way communications systems.
Able to perform all clerical work involved in adoptions, reclaims, payment of money due from quarantine fees, and any other monies coming into the shelter as needed.
Maintain equipment, buildings and shelter grounds.
Maintain oneself in proper uniform and general appearance and behavior.
Operates and maintains crematory.
Supports the departmental operations with regular and timely attendance.
Supports the relationship between the City of Odessa and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

License and certification requirements: Possess a valid Texas Driver License. Possess Euthanasia Certification from Texas Department of Health or obtain within 120 days after appointment.
Physical demands and working environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to operate equipment, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Employee work on slippery and uneven surfaces and are exposed to loud noise, odors, and dirt. Employees are routinely exposed to dangerous, injured, or diseased, unruly, and vicious animals; fecal matter, blood and other hazards; and to various cleaning chemicals.

Budgetary Responsibilities: Assists with and makes recommendations concerning the annual budget.
* Performs daily rounds and evaluates the health and welfare of the animals in the shelter.
* Meets with staff to discuss animal health issues and preventive health measures.
* Provides timely preventative care, diagnostic procedures, triage, and general medical and basic surgical treatment of all animals in the shelter.

* Performs necropsies.
* Assists with planning and participates in low-cost vaccination clinics.
* Administers the rabies control program.
* Vaccinates all animals not currently vaccinated against rabies prior to their release when vaccination is appropriate and certifies all animals released from quarantine observation as being free from rabies.
* Knowledge of the principles of infectious disease presentation, pathogenesis, diagnosis, management including but not limited to: URI, kennel cough, panleukopenia, parvo, distemper, other infectious causes of diarrhea, ringworm, common internal parasites, common external parasites, FIP, FeLV, FIV, and rabies.
* Knowledge of general principles of vaccinations in developing vaccination protocols focusing on vaccinations for common shelter conditions.
* Provides staff training relevant to animal husbandry, humane animal handling, sanitation and disease control, basic animal behavior, medical care, surgical support and first aid for animals.
* Evaluates sick and injured animals for most humane treatment/disposition.
* Assists in the training and performance of proper euthanasia of animals by injection.
* Establishes and implements written medical treatment protocols for the shelter environment.
* Ability to interpret radiographs.
* Ability to provide emergency medical care, stabilization, diagnosis, and treatment of ill and injured animals brought to the shelter.
* Ability to interpret local ordinances, statutes, rules, regulations, and city policies pertaining to animal services.
* Ability to input animal records into computer to requisition and control euthanasia drugs in accordance with all applicable state and federal regulations and laws. Knowledge of drug classifications, rules, and regulations of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
* Ability to stay abreast of new trends and innovations in animal sheltering.
* Able to attend advisory board meetings and staff meetings.
