Job Summary:
Performs hydrotherapy treatments for burn patients using the Hubbard tank or trolley including debridement of eschar, removal of infected tissue, and dressing the wound. Works with patients on other units with wound care issues as referred by attending physicians. Works directly with OR leadership to determine jobs in the OR under the direct supervision of the surgeon.
This employee will work Saturday and Sunday from 7:30am-4pm (16 hours) every week.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides assistance in preparing the operating room for the patient and assigned case (ie equipment, supplies) under direct supervision of the surgeon.
Perform in room burn care and treatments within the organization.
Assist with delivery of patient care and maintenance of environmental standards under a licensed nurse or physician's supervision.
Employs strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy environment.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES
Patient Assessment (Fundamental Awareness): Has limited experience, training, direct exposure, or past experience working with patient assessments.
Operating Room Care (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate operating room care in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Generally works under the direction of others while accomplishing assignments.
Patient Documentation (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate patient documentation in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Generally works under the direction of others while accomplishing assignments.
Burn Care (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate burn care in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Generally, works under the direction of others while accomplishing assignments.

Surgical Equipment Knowledge (Novice): Knowledge of the specific equipment and its performance criteria, capabilities, and limitations. Able to use the equipment to accomplish basic tasks associated with the specific devices. May conduct remedial maintenance and preventive maintenance.

A veterinary technician assistant (VTA) plays a vital daily role in our hospital, as our VTA staff members are (in many cases) our frontline medical staff regarding the assessment and medical/nursing care of our patients. In general, our VTA staff is responsible for general patient care and comfort, but they also are very important regarding the diagnostic evaluation of our patients as well as their medical care. Our VTA staff also plays an important role in basic client communication regarding the medical needs of their canine and feline family members. This list includes many (but not all!) of the many vital patient and client care duties provided by our VTA staff:
Restrain patients for physical examinations/procedures for specialty and emergency service patients. Such procedures include orthopedic/neurological examinations, blood/urine collection, radiographs, and ultrasound.
Assist ER and specialty technicians and clinicians during the performance of more advanced diagnostic tests and therapies such as CT/MRI scanning, endoscopy, chemotherapy administration, surgical prep, and anesthetized/sedated patient monitoring.
Work with ICU technicians in setting up patient beds for in-patients.
Assisting technicians with obtaining patient medical histories.
Obtaining patient vital parameters (i.e. temperature, pulse rate, respiratory rate).
For certain specialty departments, assist with patient drop-off, hospital admission, and hospital discharge, including review of patient discharge instructions and medication and follow-up requirements.
Assist specialty technicians with daily appointment flow.
Stock supplies and instruments (i.e. catheters, scrub, syringes, IV fluid bags, fluid lines, bandage material, etc.).
General maintenance and cleaning of medical equipment (i.e. surgical instruments, endoscopes, autoclave).
Performance of basic in-house diagnostic testing, such as PCV/TS, blood glucose, lactate, urine specific gravity, and cytology sample preparation.
Submission of laboratory samples to diagnostic laboratories (on-site and send-out).
Walking and feeding patients (hospitalized and outpatient) along with all aspects of general nursing care.
Maintaining laundry and cleanliness of play/elimination yard

Highly skilled in veterinary triage, diagnostics, and nursing.
Must have strong veterinary medical knowledge and a detailed understanding of common disease processes and pharmacology.

Must be exemplary in customer service, attention to detail, critical thinking, team-oriented attitude, calm demeanor in stressful situations, effective communicator, effective time management.
Must become efficient in Smart Flow and EzyVet within the training period.
Preferred Qualifications:
Have LVMT CVT, LVT, or RVT licensure and at least 1+ years of veterinary hospital experience.
At least 3+ years of direct ER and/or ICU experience may be substituted for licensure.
Schedule Requirements:
Worked shifts must be a full 12-hours
Must work a minimum of two 12-hour shifts per month
Cannot work more than two shifts per week

Without our LVT, no procedures (surgical, medical, or otherwise) would be performed on our patients. Also, we would not be able to provide the care to our patients and the guidance to their families that is required for positive patient outcomes. The following is a list of some of the many duties provided by our licensed veterinary technicians: Licensed Veterinary Technicians, Emergency Service/Specialty Services
Determining levels of triage (i.e. critical, urgent, stable)
Obtaining patient histories with subsequent input of this information into our electronic patient care system (EzyVet)
Assisting our veterinary clinicians in all aspects of patient care:
Restraint for physical examination
Discussion of cost estimates and treatment plan options with clients
Performance of patient diagnostics (i.e. radiographs, CT scan/MRI, in-house laboratory - CBC, chemistry panel, urinalysis, lactate, etc.)
Medication administration (i.e. injectable [IM, IV, SC], oral, transmucosal, inhlalant, and via feeding tube)
Routine medical procedures such as IV catheter placement, administration and monitoring of sedation/anesthesia, etc.
Routine medication dose calculation and knowledge of medication adverse effects
With time and experience, more advanced medical procedures such as IV central line placement, abdominocentesis, thoracocentesis, feeding tube placement, and urinary catheter placement
Patient discharge duties, including the filling of prescription medications, reviewing patient at-home care requirements, and follow-up recommendations
Licensed Veterinary Technicians, (Intensive Care Unit/Critical Care Service):
Administer patient treatments (IV, oral, via feeding tube, etc.) and all other aspects of patient/nursing care
Perform inpatient diagnostics/procedures as needed (i.e. radiographs, in-house laboratory evaluation, nasogastric tube placement, bandage changes, etc.)
Check treatment sheets for accuracy and completeness
Blood product transfusion setup and administration
Keep doctors updated regarding patient status
