Essential Job Functions:
Listed are the essential duties and responsibilities that are required of this position. This section includes the primary accountabilities or duties of the job. The incumbent must be able to perform all the following duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation:
* Provide excellent patient care by performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating diseases, and providing preventive care according to patient signalment, lifestyle, and environment.
* Utilize a problem-based approach that includes developing a complete problem list for every patient examined, a complete list of differential diagnoses for each problem identified, a complete diagnostic plan, and appropriate treatments based on interpretation of diagnostic test results leading to confirmed or suspected diagnoses.
* Document all patient observations, findings of exams and diagnostics, treatments and medications, client interactions, and tentative and confirmed diagnoses in the medical record in a concise and detail fashion, according to practice convention.
* Perform routine and complex surgical procedures including (but not limited) spays/neuters, abdominal exploratory, and mass removals.
* Perform routine and complex dental procedures including full dental examination, evaluation of dental radiographs, as well as simple and complex extractions and oral surgical procedures.
* Develop treatment plans for patients undergoing day hospitalization based on complete problem-based assessment. Transition patients to overnight care as needed and communicate effectively with referral hospitals to ensure continuity of patient care.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
* Participate in rounds as incoming or exiting doctor at beginning and end of shifts.
* Disseminate knowledge throughout staff to improve the level of care and communication provided hospital partners, to both the patient and the client.
* Performs additional duties as assigned.
Nature of Supervision:
In all activities related to the care of individual patients, the Veterinarian will take direct supervision from the Hospital Medical Leader or Area Medical Director. The Veterinarian has discretion related to decisions regarding patient care, however, it is imperative that the Veterinarian uphold the standards set forth in the Petco Veterinary SOPs. The Veterinarian should expect to receive direction and guidance based on electronic medical record review from the Hospital Medical Leader or Area Medical Director regarding patient decisions and should accept such feedback as a means to elevate patient care in the hospital.
All hospital veterinarians should work together in a collegial fashion and are expected to behave in a professional and personable manner.
Planning and Problem Solving:
Problem solving is at the heart of veterinary medicine, and it is expected that any successful candidate will possess excellent problem-solving skills that allow expeditious diagnosis of patient problems.
Impact:
This position will impact the organization by contributing to the growth of a productive practice while focusing on a high-quality standard of care. From an overall hospital organizational standpoint, this position is critical to ensuring that we have a cohesive, well-trained, and motivated team. The desired result is the creation of an optimal environment that ensures employee retention, patient well-being, and customer satisfaction.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, however, as stated above the Veterinarian is a de facto leader in the hospital.
Education/Experience
* Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school.
* Active licensure as a veterinarian without contingencies in the state in which the hospital is located or ability to obtain by start date.
* Current DEA license.
* Current Controlled Substance License, if applicable, in state in which the hospital is located or ability to obtain by start date.
* USDA Category I (minimum) Accreditation or completion within two months of hire date.
* Must be comfortable performing anesthesia and routine surgeries including but not limited to: canine and feline spays, neuters, mass removals, and dentals.
* Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Must be compassionate and sympathetic, and be able to maintain a professional attitude and demeanor during emotional and stressful situations.
* Must have telephone and computer skills.
* Must be a team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments, offer creative ideas, and accept change.
Work Environment:
The majority of job duties are conducted in the Vetco Total Care veterinary full-service hospital. Position requires bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 pounds, as necessary), and standing for long periods of time. A large amount of this partner's time will be spent in direct contact with clients and their pets.

This is a full time surgical position 4 day work week and after hours surgical call every third week/weekend of the month. Job duties include, but are not limited to:
Field Work/Exam Assistant
Properly restraining patients for examination and treatment.
Set up, trouble shooting, break down of all equipment used in house and in the field.
Transferring all images taken on equipment to Efilm.
Sterile joint prep.
Trotting horses in hand.
Lunging horses on a lunge line.
Setting catheter and hanging fluids in field.
Laboratory
Collect blood from Jugular, cephalic, and saphenous veins.
Collect and run all lab samples (CBC, chemistry, fecal, fibrinogen, IgG, SAA, blood gas, PCV/TP, blood lactate, abdominal lactate, blood glucose).
Collect and submit blood work and samples using Idexx vet connect.
Submission of coggins and health certificates through Global Vetlink.
Submission of hand written coggins and heath certificates.
Send out specialty tests, tissue samples, and necropsy to outside labs.
Be able to trouble shoot lab equipment.
Patient Care
Read and understand patient charts, perform required treatments, and follow veterinarian's orders accurately.
Accurately draw up medications to be given to patients.

Working knowledge of common drugs, dosages, and frequency

Place urinary catheters in patients
Monitor "ins and outs" of patients.
Radiology
Set up x-ray equipment.
Proper plate positioning.
Proper marker placement.
Warming up and use if the 1000 MA x-ray machine.
Logging all radiographs taken.
Sending all radiographs taken to efilm.
Burning CD of images for clients.
Emailing radiographs to clients and referring's.
Surgery
Admit patients to hospital, making sure that owners/agents have signed a consent form.
Prepare patients for routine surgeries with clipping, aseptic scrub, IV catheter, leg wrapped, and mouth rinsed.
All anesthesia and hospital supply drawers fully stocked.
Monitor patient's post-surgery.
Clean, pack, and sterilize surgical instruments; recognize and report missing/broken tools.
Discharge patients and review home-care instructions with clients.
Prepare patients for challenging surgeries
Clean and pack surgery packs, drills, and special equipment
Be ON CALL and assigned to this duty as regular assignment
Scrub in and assist in surgery
Other Responsibilities
Maintain a professional appearance (for example, neat and clean uniform or other appropriate attire).
Maintain a professional, courteous attitude.
Attend and participate in all required staff meetings.

Responsible for advanced husbandry and behavioral training of animals in the assigned area.
Participate in educational animal presentations, shows, and interactive programs within the Aquarium.

Requirements
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Biology, Zoology, Marine Science or related discipline required or relative work experience.
Minimum 4 years' experience working with marine and/or terrestrial animals in professional setting.
SCUBA certification.
Excellent public speaking and showmanship experience.
Experience with neonate and juvenile rearing preferred.
Life support experience preferred.

The Veterinary Technician, Mid-shift ICU is the primary caretaker for all Intensive Care Unit patients in the Companion Animal Clinic. The skilled technician requires a high degree of independent judgment when delivering critical care to ICU patients. This position reports directly to the Veterinary Technician Supervisor at the Companion Animal Clinic. The hours for the Veterinary Technician Mid-shift ICU position are typically between 12:00pm-10:30pm - Monday through Thursday but may change depending on clinic needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Admit patients to the Intensive Care Unit for hospitalization utilizing electronic records and treatment sheets
Monitor physical conditions, wounds, and medical diseases of hospitalized patients including pain assessments, ensuring patients remain in stable condition
Provide basic life support and advanced life support to critical care patients
Assist with emergency medical care for critical patients under supervision of the attending veterinarian
Use independent judgement to determine appropriate medical care to stabilize patients when attending veterinarian is not present
Set up equipment and supplies correctly for hospitalization, treatments, and procedures
Act as the primary care giver for ICU patients during the mid shift by completing the following duties under limited supervision:
Take and record TPR at frequent intervals
Complete calculations for proper dilutions of medications and fluid therapy management including opioids and other controlled drugs
Administer medications and fluid therapy in accordance with timed treatments
Restrain animals in a humane manner to minimize pain and stress
Assist with anesthesia administration and monitoring
Responsible for radiography, venipuncture, catheter placement and bandage changes
Feed and exercise hospitalized animals as directed
Work with veterinary students to create accurate hospitalization and treatment forms and estimates
Ensure correct charges are entered in practice management software daily
Assist veterinarians in running of routine and emergency lab samples
Communicate with the veterinarian on duty and veterinary students on medical cases
Recordkeeping - Adding appropriate patient notes into electronic medical record.
Follow protocols in working with patients with infectious diseases
Be the advocate for all patients in the Intensive Care Unit
Discharge patients from the clinic
Assist in instructional support of students in conjunction with the faculty during discussions and treatments
Process laundry/linen as needed to always assure adequate and neat supply
Maintain equipment and inventory in the department
Must treat all employees, students, and clients with a high level of respect and follow customer service guidelines and protocols.

CVT certification from the State of Arizona is preferred. At least 2 years of experience in an ICU or emergency setting is required for individuals who work the mid shift. The ideal candidate will have prior experience with fluid therapy management. This position requires working in a team environment with a high focus on patient care. Detail oriented with the ability to promote a teaching atmosphere is essential.
Computer Skills
The individual must have the ability to learn the StringSoft Veterinary Management system, and have basic proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Support faculty and students in the delivery of patient care at a variety of facilities
* Assist in setting up surgical and treatment areas and restraining exotic animals for procedures and treatments
* Ensure facilities are properly equipped to handle exotic species, including husbandry and nutrition. Assist with husbandry of patients in clinic
* Follow guidelines and protocols established at on-site and off-site facilities
* Assist with anesthesia administration and monitoring which includes sedation, intubation, recovery and post-operative monitoring of exotic species.
* Assist with surgical procedures as needed

Basic Qualifications
Minimum of one year of experience working with and/or caring for companion animals and aquatic life is required for this position. Qualified applicants will possess a high level of knowledge of companion animals and aquatic life and an aptitude for sales techniques. In addition to having a professional appearance and demeanor, applicants must also demonstrate a keen and genuine interest in animals and their care. Good interpersonal and verbal communication skills are necessary due to the nature of interaction with the public and other partners and leaders within the PCC as well as external veterinary partners.
Certification
Completing and maintaining of the Petco Animal Care Certification program is required in this role.
Education/Skills
In addition to a high school diploma or its equivalent (GED), an applicant must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the areas of mathematics and basic accounting relationships and exhibit exceptional communication skills.
Supervisory Responsibility
* Ensures that the Pet Care Center is opened and / or closed in accordance with established P&Ps as it applies to SFS operations.
* Adhere to and promote established safety procedures for partners, guests, and pets.
Work Environment
The majority of job duties are conducted indoors, although guest carryouts and veterinary visits will require that a partner leave the PCC briefly. Because this position requires bending, kneeling, moving merchandise (up to 50 pounds, as necessary) and standing for long periods of time, there may be risk of injury resulting from not following procedures. Ability and willingness to a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends to meet PCC needs.

Position Overview
As an Operations Specialist in Animal Care, your role will be to ensure that proper animal care and husbandry is being provided for all companion animals and aquatic life in the Pet Care Center (PCC). You'll be the primary resource regarding animal care and maintenance. This position will support the achievement of the PCC's budgeted sales and shrink goals. You'll ensure our merchandising and inventory strategies are executed across the Pet Care Center with your primary focus in companion animals and aquatic life. You will ensure the efficient and effective operations of the Pet Care Center in close partnership with the sales team to meet the needs of the guest and their pet/s. You can excel in this role by exhibiting a passion for the welfare, health, and proper care of animals as well as being a positive partner within the whole Pet Care Center team.
