Job Description
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
Animal restraint, triage of incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients, surgical preparation and assistance, and anesthetic management.
Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.

Strong communication with Doctors, Leadership, Charge Technicians, Technicians, Client Patient Coordinators, and fellow Technician Assistants is essential to effectively carry out delegated tasks and ensure quality outcomes. This role requires a reliable, proactive, high-energy individual capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Support veterinarians and technicians with patient monitoring, including vitals, intake/output, and alert reporting.
Assist with clinical tasks such as diagnostics, sample collection, radiographs, triage, workups, and wound/bandage care.
Help care for hospitalized and emergency patients, including feeding, walking, weighing, and maintaining cleanliness.
Transport patients safely throughout the hospital for procedures and treatments.
Collect samples (urine, fecal, blood when approved).
Maintain a clean, stocked, and sanitized hospital environment, including laundry, dishes, equipment, and treatment areas.
Perform clerical duties such as documenting in medical records, typing, phone use, and learning required software.
Attend staff meetings, participate in check-ins, and help train new assistants or husbandry staff.
Provide safe patient restraint during exams and procedures.
Prepare workstations and materials for procedures and ongoing monitoring.
Assist with CPR recording, EKGs, oxygen cage setup, and crash cart stocking.
Handle animals calmly and safely during treatments and testing.
Apply basic knowledge of drugs, clinical procedures, and administrative processes.
Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership or based on hospital needs.
Qualifications:
High School diploma is required.
Certification from a veterinary assistant program or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education / experience.
1-2 years of veterinary experience
Adapts positively to the ever-changing healthcare environment by supporting technology and process changes.
Must possess excellent listening and interpersonal skills and problem-solving methods.
Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus!

Basic Qualifications
Minimum of one year of experience working with and/or caring for companion animals and aquatic life is required for this position. Education/Skills

Supervisory Responsibility
* Ensures that the Pet Care Center is opened and / or closed in accordance with established P&Ps as it applies to SFS operations.

Work Environment
The majority of job duties are conducted indoors, although guest carryouts and veterinary visits will require that a partner leave the PCC briefly. Because this position requires bending, kneeling, moving merchandise (up to 50 pounds, as necessary) and standing for long periods of time, there may be risk of injury resulting from not following procedures. Ability and willingness to a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends to meet PCC needs.
