Under the supervision of the Veterinary Services Supervisor, provides medical care for shelter animals, ensuring humane treatment and thorough assessments of adoption potential. Key responsibilities include assisting the Shelter Veterinarian with medical procedures, surgeries, and post-operative care, as well as securing controlled substances, performing lab work, and managing related clerical tasks. This role requires attention to detail, compassion, and knowledge of veterinary care to support the health and well-being of animals within the shelter.

Enforces, controls, and maintains security of controlled substances in accordance with rules, regulations, and federal laws.
Performs laboratory tasks such as fecal analysis, bloodwork, urinalysis, cytology.
Assists in responding to questions from citizens regarding spay/neutering or other medical questions.
Responsible for notifying owners of impounded animals of any medical concerns and/or scheduled surgeries.
Examines, evaluates, and vaccinates shelter animals. Responsible for daily inspections of kennel population for additional illness or injury. Reports findings to the veterinarian. Assist with animal assessment rounds, scoring animals for adoptability and pathway planning.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Training and Experience
High school diploma, GED or equivalent and completion of college level classes leading to certification as a Certified Veterinary Technician.
Minimum of three (3) years' experience working as an uncertified Veterinary Technician for a Licensed Veterinarian and/or (2) years working as a certified Veterinary Technician for a Licensed Veterinarian
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver License and be insurable by current insurance carrier.
State of Florida euthanasia certification, or equivalent credentials, recognized by the Florida Animal Control Association.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Ā· Actively recruit new clients by promoting hospital services, Optimum Wellness Plans, preventative care and pet health needs.

Ā· Provide professional, efficient and exceptional service at all times. This includes encouraging hospital visits, welcoming clients and pets, ensuring that they are comfortable in the hospital, educating them about their pet's health, performing or preparing procedures that do not require veterinarian assistance, completing preparatory work for other procedures, and monitoring hospitalized or surgical pets.
Ā· Upon approval from supervising veterinarian, perform veterinary technician appointments. All appointments must be under the direction and supervision of veterinarian and in compliance with state law.
Ā· Assist incoming clients by completing the required documentation, entering all pet information and history in the computer, utilizing proper collars and tags for identification, and ensuring prompt service.
Ā· Assist outgoing clients by providing all necessary instructions, information and invoices, dispensing prescription items per the veterinarian's instructions, selling retail products and scheduling future appointments.
Ā· Manage the finances by maintaining accurate balances and utilizing proper opening and closing procedures.
Ā· Act as the extra eyes, ears and hands for the veterinarian to ensure the best quality pet care and to maximize the veterinarian's productivity and communicate with the other associates to maintain the flow of patients.
Ā· Obtain relevant information and history from clients and maintain proper and complete medical charts.
Ā· Ensure the safety of pets, clients and associates by utilizing safe restraining techniques, following standard protocols, and maintaining clean, sterile and organized treatment areas, exam rooms and labs.
Ā· Assist with surgery as applicable.
Ā· Train and mentor new paraprofessional associates.
Ā· Quality check medical records, go home medications, regulatory documentations, hospital cleanliness, and timeliness of doctors seeing exam room patients.
Ā· Utilize technical skills to the fullest, within state practice acts regarding the duties of credentialed veterinary technicians. Conduct administrative functions as necessary.
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ā· Assist Practice Manager in developing an efficient, productive hospital team that provides the highest quality care and service to the most pets and clients, following all Banfield protocols and practices, as well as all local, state and federal laws, focusing the team to achieve practice priorities while building our culture and brand.
Ā· Support Practice Manager in hospital labor management.
Ā· May assist Practice Manager in the selection, training, and day-to-day supervision of the paraprofessional team.
Ā· Assist Practice Manager in creating an environment where a team can deliver quality, efficient and effective veterinary care to pets.
Ā· Provide effective communication between associates, clients, hospital leadership and Central Team Support.
Ā· Ensure all hospital associates adhere to Banfield dress and grooming guidelines.
Ā· Prepare whole team on cases scheduled for the day, assist with any transfers of cases from day before or external referrals to provide continuity of care, triage the treatment board.
Ā· Assist Practice Manager in identifying potential ābottlenecksā and formulating solutions to remove barriers in medical operations that would impede the doctors in providing world class preventive care and client service.
Ā· Confer with field leadership and assist with client resolution decisions, invoice adjustments and client experience exceptions.
Ā· Address broken equipment issues and assist in inventory management.
REQUIREMENTS
Veterinary Technician Certification or Licensure (CVT, RVT, LVT, or LVMT)
PREFERRED
Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program.
