We are looking for a Network Engineer to join our Viasat Government group! In this exciting role, you will be responsible for supporting the design, maintenance, and modernization of a critical global satellite communications system! You will be designing, updating, and maintaining networking configurations in both cloud and on premises environments. Your duties will include researching and recommending hardware and software networking solutions for cloud and hybrid environments, developing and testing VPN solutions across large geographical locations, and making design changes to data-center racks to modernize the existing equipment and/or replace end of life parts.
The day-to-day
* Install, design, and troubleshoot LANs and WANs with IPSEC tunnels on all layers of the OSI stack.
* Configure, test, troubleshoot and patch modern network routers, switches and firewalls on Cisco, Fortinet and Palo Alto devices.
* Review new system and security requirements on cloud infrastructure components and develop appropriate remediation steps.
* Deploy configuration and security updates to on-premises and cloud infrastructure clusters and services.
* Maintenance of datacenter rack equipment including servers, network equipment, RF equipment, ethernet and power cables etc.
* Design, test, and deployment of EOL replacement devices to the ground segment of a global communications network.
* Supporting engineering efforts for IA remediation of network equipment and applicable software.
What you'll need
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Technology, a related field of study or equivalent years of experience
* 5+ years of experience working with TCP/IP network design and troubleshooting, Linux systems, Satcom systems, etc
* Network design and network management experience specially for cloud, containerization, and virtualization setups to include IP subnetting, routing, access lists, firewall rules, DNS, DHCP etc.
* Relevant networking certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, Network+, Security+, etc
* Work experience with procuring and setting up networking and communication systems, RF equipment and peripherals such as ethernet and power cables, PDUs, etc
* This is a hybrid role located at our main campus in Carlsbad, CA. Must be able to come into the office 3 days/week.

Salary range
$103,500.00 - $164,000.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $127,500.00- $191,500.00/ annually
