Primary Responsibilities:




  • Facilitate delivery in a team of software engineers in devops value stream delivery platform

  • Mentor software engineers and lead software engineering code quality and best practices (e.g., test best practices, design patterns, code smells, etc.)

Required Qualifications:




  • Undergraduate degree in applicable area of expertise or equivalent experience

  • 5+ years of experience with Platform/DevOps engineering

  • 5+ years of experience helping define technical strategy and direction of software projects

Director, Data Engineering Asset Protection

The Hartford Financial Services Group is seeking a Director, Data Engineering Asset Protection leader with a strong understanding of data architecture, principles of ETL and Data Warehousing such as Fact Tables, Dimension Tables, Star / Snowflake Schemas, SCD, CDC. This individual will bring with them a creative solution design approach as well as strategic thinking to data exploration and discovery.

The Director, Data Engineering Asset Protection will partner closely with the Data Science organization and our IT counterparts in outlining the infrastructure stabilization and data roadmap. The Director will focus on protecting our Data Science product line, by ensuring the data and infrastructure used by the Data Science portfolio including design, development, implementation and production is strategically aligned and stable for the Data Science consumption. Acting as an expert resource representing the Data Science strategy and need, you will be responsible in providing data, business, and technical direction on the part of the data science organization. Additionally, you will act as the approver on changes and impact of those changes to the organization.

This position combines business and technical skills that will be used to drive interaction with business customers, research staff, as well as internal and external data suppliers, infrastructure support, Information Technology experts, and a wide variety of Hartford personnel at all levels in support of quantitative research, predictive modeling, operational business intelligence, and data mining projects for Predictive Modeling and Operational Analytics. In this role the Director will require strong leadership, communication, and management abilities in order to influence and implement best practices across the data science department.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a leader in protecting the data science portfolio.
  • Develop and maintain a clear understanding of the Data Science organizations infrastructure, code, and data needs, be able to understand that need and communicate the impact of those components on the Data Science portfolio to our foundational partners.
  • Evolve and maintain a position as a subject matter data expert, defining business requirements, providing data, and assisting in high level data analysis.
  • Work closely with external and internal data suppliers throughout The Hartford in analyzing data sources and architectural decisions. Be able to translate data science requirements to suppliers as well as data science inputs to consumers.
  • Understand the relationship between the infrastructure, the data and the business process, and employ knowledge and strong communication skills to disseminate information and direction on availability and quality.
  • Act as the Data Science department lead in maintaining and implementing existing infrastructure and data processes.
  • Customer facing leadership to the Data Science organization includes presentations to all levels of management, training, use case development, and consulting activities.

Qualifications

  • 8-10+ years of data engineering experience in analysis, manipulation and development; accessing and retrieving data from disparate large data sources.
  • Have deep experience in data architecture, principles of ETL and Data Warehousing such as Fact Tables, Dimension Tables, Star / Snowflake Schemas, SCD, CDC.
  • Hands on experience with data modeling, data warehousing tools and databases (e.g. Python, Hadoop, SAS, ETL, Big Data, ORACLE, and Hive).
  • ML OPS experience with strength towards AWS Services
  • Experience in developing roadmaps that encompasses data and infrastructure alignment with the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Must have strong analytical skills to relate the data to the business processes that generates it and the communication skills to disseminate information regarding the availability, quality, and other characteristics of the data to a diverse audience.
  • Ability to articulate and train technical requirements to a both internal team members and to customers.
  • Experience in making decisions regarding priorities and methods and navigating a matrix environment with both the customer and immediate teams.
  • Ability to analyze source systems, provide business solutions, and translate into actionable steps.
  • Results oriented with the ability to multi-task and adjust priorities when necessary
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment with internal /external customers.
  • Bachelor degree or equivalent experience in related field required

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$120,560 - $180,840
