Videology company history timeline
The company officially began operations in 2007 under the name Tidal TV. It was founded in Baltimore by Ferber.
In June 2008, the company launched a free television-watching site that competed with sites like Hulu and Joost.
Beta testing of its video streaming software began in 2008.
By 2009, it was selling specific demographic audiences to advertisers using algorithms and analytics.
In 2012 Tidal TV was renamed to Videology.
Videology raised another $60 million in 2013, reaching a total of $120 million in funding.
Videology moved its headquarters to New York in 2014 but maintians a key presence in Baltimore and also has offices in Austin, Toronto, London, Paris, Madrid, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo.
In 2014, Videology said half of its revenues were coming from television advertising budgets and it created a TV division within the company.
In February 2015, videos uploaded directly to Facebook.com received 90.4 million views.
Videology announced chapter 11 bankruptcy in May 2018, and was subsequently acquired by the Singtel Group that owns the Amobee brand.
Videology met 2019 projections, producing more than 150,000 cameras for OEMs across North America and the EU.
Hedge fund Alden’s bid to buy Tribune Publishing, including The Baltimore Sun, approved by shareholders May 21, 2021
