Village of Carpentersville company history timeline

1851

They called their town Carpenters' Grove and the name held until 1851 when Carpentersville became official.

1864

In 1864 Carpenter established an iron foundry and blacksmith shop called the Illinois Iron & Bolt Company.

1875

Although he moved to Elgin in 1875, Carpenter continued his business interests in Carpentersville.

1912

By 1912 Carpenter's two companies employed 2,000 people.

1956

By 1956 Besinger had accumulated more than 2,600 acres.

1958

When the Northwest Tollway opened in 1958, it offered commuters easier access to the community.

1960

By 1960, there were 54 stores in the shopping center with Wieboldt's as its anchor.

1982

Prospective buyers toured model homes and sometimes waited three to four hours for a salesperson, but by 1982 the complex consisted of 6,000 houses and approximately 1,000 apartment units.
