Village of Lake Zurich company history timeline

1896

Believing that the railroad would bring development, community leaders incorporated Lake Zurich as a village in 1896, with Frank Clark as president.

1900

Although large icehouses were built with a view to developing an industry, it failed to prosper because of poor transportation to Chicago's center, and the community's population rose to only just over 200 by 1900.

1910

In 1910, Justin K. Orvis persuaded residents to support the construction of a rail line linking Lake Zurich to the Chicago & North Western Railway at Palatine.

1912

Passenger service on the Palatine, Lake Zurich & Wauconda Railroad (PLZ&W) began in 1912 after the railroad bridged the EJ&E.

1930

On June 20, 1930, a charter for the Lake Zurich Chamber of Commerce was recommended and accepted by the Illinois Chamber of Commerce with the mission of advancing the commercial, industrial, professional and civic interest of the Lake Zurich community.

1954

Little is on record of the activities and accomplishments of the forerunner of the present day Chamber, which was reorganized in 1954 with E. A. Lusk serving as president.

1965

By 1965, the Chamber had grown to 52 members.

1971

Also in 1971, the Chamber was instrumental in creating a 40-car parking lot in the center of town.

2019

A new 50,000-square-foot medical office facility is scheduled to open in Kildeer in 2019.

2020

Because of these highly successful retailers, excellent demographics, and pro-business culture, Life Time Fitness will join the Lake Zurich community in Spring 2020 when they open their new 120,000 square foot facility.
