In May 1917, the village immediately incorporated when a newborn infant became Mount Prospect's three-hundredth resident.
From there, the largest growth came during land speculations in the 1920's and then the suburban movements that followed World War II. The baby boom expanded the population and the Village began expanding the services it offered.
During this period, Mount Prospect experienced business expansion and population growth that increased the number of residents to 1,225 by 1930.
In the early 1960's, the business community in Mount Prospect took a giant leap forward with the construction of Randhurst, the first indoor air-conditioned mall in the upper Midwest.
By 1992, the village's chamber of commerce began a downtown revitalization campaign that sought to “keep the small in small town.”
Education Rated the “best place to raise kids” (Business Week 2009), Mount Prospect’s six elementary school districts and one high school district consistently rank high in comparative analysis.
In 2014, the Centennial Commission was formed to help envision how to celebrate this milestone.
