Village of Mount Prospect company history timeline

1917

In May 1917, the village immediately incorporated when a newborn infant became Mount Prospect's three-hundredth resident.

1920

From there, the largest growth came during land speculations in the 1920's and then the suburban movements that followed World War II. The baby boom expanded the population and the Village began expanding the services it offered.

1930

During this period, Mount Prospect experienced business expansion and population growth that increased the number of residents to 1,225 by 1930.

1960

In the early 1960's, the business community in Mount Prospect took a giant leap forward with the construction of Randhurst, the first indoor air-conditioned mall in the upper Midwest.

1992

By 1992, the village's chamber of commerce began a downtown revitalization campaign that sought to “keep the small in small town.”

2009

Education Rated the “best place to raise kids” (Business Week 2009), Mount Prospect’s six elementary school districts and one high school district consistently rank high in comparative analysis.

2014

In 2014, the Centennial Commission was formed to help envision how to celebrate this milestone.

2017

In 2017, the Village will commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Village's incorporation.
