Upon our founding in 1968, France is still an agricultural nation, where food producing animals prevail.
In the 1970’s, there was a sense of urgency around public opinion in developed countries, where there is already an increased awareness of well-being and protection.
In 1981, he spotted an opening in the pet-care field to produce skin care products developed specifically for dogs.
Brandt formed a company called Allerderm in 1982 to address this need, initially producing anti-itch shampoos.

In 1997, another innovation is micro-encapsulation technology, which serves as the basis for the first dermatological shampoo for dogs and cats that remains active after rinsing.
The merger was completed in March 1999, with Pascal Boissy, president of Virbac SA, assuming the chairmanship, and Virbac's CEO Doctor Brian A. Crook staying on as chief executive.
For the year 2002, management reported sales of $63.8 million and net income of $3.4 million.
