The PatientCare Instructor is part of our Career and Technical Education program. Interested candidates must have two (2) years of experience as a registered nurse and at least one year of direct client care or supervisory experience in the provision of long-term care services. Experiences may include employment in a nurse aide education program or employment in, or supervision of nursing students in, a nursing facility or unit, geriatrics department, chronic care hospital, home care, or other long-term care setting. Candidates must also hold a current, unrestricted Virginia license or multistate licensure privilege as a registered nurse; hold or be eligible for, or be willing to obtain a Virginia Collegiate Professional or Technical Professional licensure with endorsement in applicable subject area.
Prior to being assigned to teach in a nurse aide education program, candidates shall demonstrate competence to teach adults or high school students by completing 12 hours of instructor training or refresher training in the past years if the RN has taught previously in a nurse aide education program.
Salary will be based on the approved FY26 Teacher Pay Scale. This is a 10-month position.

The Critical CareTechnician conducts drug utilization review studies, and consults with medical practitioners on prescription orders, patient reactions, and errors. Additionally, this employee works closely with patients and healthcare providers to provide information and guidance about the effects of prescription drugs, and to help plan effective drug therapy programs.
* Maintains and cares for all equipment, to include cleaning of intravenous pumps, poles, glucometer, and ultrasound machine with hospital approved disinfectant, before and after use.
* Maintains patient areas with adequate supplies.
* Completes equipment log, reports broken equipment, and enters work orders for repair.
* Ensures that medication refrigerator is clean, maintains refrigerator logs, and reports deviations in temperature range to supervisor.
* Collects vital signs and communicates abnormalities to appropriate senior staff member(s).
* Accompanies patients to the exam room for procedures.
* Prepares clinic rooms for procedures to assure all equipment and supplies are present.
* Assists with simple wound care and practices universal precautions per policy.
* Assists in lifting, positioning, turning, and ambulating patients.

Nurse to patient ratios are based on acuity but are typically 1:2 and function within a team environment. The unit employs over 120 nurses with over 750 years of combined experience. Our team cares for the adult patient who needs critical care nursing expertise and the critical care monitoring the MICU provides. We care for patients with a variety of illnesses and diseases that involve the lungs, liver, kidneys, and other unique viruses. Many patients have long-term chronic diseases and require the specialized care of the medical critical care RN. Many of these illnesses are life-ending and the interdisciplinary team supports the patient and the family during this difficult time. The PatientCareTechnician provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the RN or licensed independent practitioner.
Essential Job functions:
* Provide safe and direct care to patients in their assigned unit making age-appropriate adjustments as needed. Monitor patients' conditions and provide updates to the health care team.
* Provide direct and indirect care to patients with and without medical/surgical complications to meet their comfort, personal hygiene and safety needs.
* Provide care in accordance with nursing and medical plans of care and deliver per VCUHS Nursing and Hospital policy and procedure.
* Ensure assigned clinical location is maintained as a safe, clean, stocked environment to facilitate meeting patient needs and unit/healthcare team functioning.
* Maintain supplies, educational material, equipment, sterilization of supplies, instruments and the environment to promote quality, safe patientcare outcomes (as applicable).
* Contribute to the patient experience by accurately identifying the patient, by observing safety goals and reporting to a licensed independent practitioner, manager and/or Registered Nurses regarding the patient's physical and mental responses to the plan of care or any incident posing harm or threat to a patient.
* Obtain and record initial and ongoing patient information throughout the cycle of care, including admissions data, vital signs, height and weight, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, intake and output, calorie counts, and other patient information as outlined by VCUHS policy.
* Obtain or assist in the collection of specimens for diagnostic or waived tests.
* Attend all mandatory in-services and trainings and adhere to online training requirements.
* Ensure patient safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in hospital, department or unit patient safety initiatives.
* Establish and maintain courteous and effective rapport with patients, visitors, co-workers, and other members of health care team; demonstrate sensitivity and awareness to needs of patients, visitors and co-workers and respond promptly to verbal and/or written instructions.
