About the Opportunity The Elementary Teacher educates students enrolled in John G. Wood School utilizing evidenced-based, data-driven programming that assist students with meeting their academic and social-emotional needs. The teacher provides educational services to students in elementary school in a therapeutic educational community. Core duties and responsibilities: Delivers lessons that are appropriately structured and paced and includes learning activities that meet the needs of all students and lead to student mastery of Standards of Learning, social-emotional objectives and behavioral programming. Effectively designs the academic programming that supports the development of critical thinking standards for academic, theoretical and real-life situations. Selects or designs rigorous, valid summative and formative assessments that seek to analyze student results and guide instructional decisions by 100% accuracy; ensure that student learning activities are driven by the data collected from these formative assessments. Adheres to procedures & policies found within our internal VHBG Policy Manuals, federal guidelines, state guidelines as well as accreditation requirements. Engages in self-reflection and growth opportunities to support high levels of learning for all students. Effectively utilizes program methodologies to address the social and behavioral deficits of students. Effectively works with students' parents and / or other identified stakeholders to address the academic and behavioral concerns presented in official and unofficial documentation. About the Opportunity The Assistant Supervisor supports the Group Home Manager and Staff Supervisor in maintaining structure of the Teaching Family home. S/he is responsible for leading Youth Counselors and provides teaching, guidance, and supervision to youth to include: overseeing physical care, development of acceptable habits and attitudes, positive behavioral supports, crisis intervention, assistance with the upkeep of the physical environment, helping youth achieve mastery of identified goals and objectives, and the timely completion of required documentation. The Assistant Supervisor assists with training new employees and coordinating program or agency-wide events as directed. The Assistant Supervisor is on call approximately 2 days a week to support the needs of the home and during the paid time off of the Staff Supervisor. Duties and Responsibilities: Direct Care of Residents: Sight and sound supervision and engagement of youth on and off-campus Documents daily activities, behaviors, contacts, and interventions. Provides a therapeutic, family-style treatment environment for youth according to the model and standards developed in the Teaching-Family Model. Professional communication with teachers, parents, caseworkers, and probation offices, etc. for the youth. Attends treatment team meetings and other meetings as assigned. Assists with transportation such as youth employment, athletic events, doctor's appointments, youth home visits, etc. Works a two week rotating schedules with alternating evening and weekend hours.     Job Description About John G. Wood Our specialized school, John G. Wood (JGW), is just the right size to teach students with emotional and behavioral challenges that impact their academic success. Small student-teacher ratios accommodate individual learning styles with a goal to transition students back to their public school as soon as possible. JGW includes a broad range of courses for children in kindergarten through grade 12 and Extended School Year (ESY) services are available during the summer. Some residents of VHBG's group homes attend JGW in addition to students who commute from multiple localities in the Richmond region. About the Opportunity This role serves students at the school in one of two ways, as assigned by the Principal: as a support coach for multiple students, or as 1:1 support coach for one assigned student. The employee may move from one role to the other throughout the school year depending on students' needs. In either role, they support the student(s) in a proactive and trauma-informed manner to maximize student learning. Core duties and responsibilities: Serve multiple students as a support coach, or one student as a 1:1 support coach, to: Create a therapeutic environment Model appropriate coping and problem-solving strategies Model appropriate classroom conduct and work habits Model safe and therapeutic verbal and physical behaviors with other staff and students Support student stability, learning, and safety Identifying antecedents and process with student before conflict evolves use positive behavioral interventions implement various levels of behavior support ranging from proactive teaching to verbal prompts to physical restraint if needed for safety assist students in developing social and emotional awareness Engage in teamwork assist the classroom teacher with instruction, individual tutoring, and student engagement to create an environment that is safe with a focus on learning engage in effective communication and teamwork with behavior coaches, 1:1s, teachers, and administration. engage in active and supportive communication with the students and their stakeholders regarding progress, problems, and other issues related to the student present data during staff, IEP, and clinical meetings Complete required documentation collect data for student assessment; complete required documentation complete paperwork as necessary including serious incident reports and behavior notes and other PBIS or IEP documentation. Serve as a substitute teacher (if not serving in a 1:1 capacity) with instructions from the teacher, and perform the curriculum lessons and tasks required by the teacher using appropriate teaching strategies Other duties as assigned. About the Opportunity The Group Home Youth Counselor Overnight is responsible for the treatment of up to 8 youth in the Teaching Family Home under the direction of the Group Home Manager. Core duties and responsibilities: · Monitor residents and facility by remaining awake during overnight hours · Implement approved Individual Service Plans and Behavior Support Plans for each youth · Provide a therapeutic, family-style treatment environment for youth according to the model and standards developed in the Teaching-Family Model (including overseeing physical care, helping youth develop acceptable habits and attitudes, positive behavioral supports, crisis intervention, assisting with the upkeep of the physical environment) · Communicate professionally with clients' teachers, parents, caseworkers, and probation officers, etc. · Transport clients if needed · Document activities, behaviors, contacts, and interventions as they occur · Work a two week rotating schedule · Embrace agency commitment to open communication in both giving and receiving information and feedback. Experience and Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred. Minimum of 6 months working with children or adolescents required. One year of experience working with youth in a group home facility is preferred. Clinical experience working with youth is preferred. In addition, the candidate must possess a valid Virginia Driver's License with driving record in good standing, must be able to successfully clear background checks associated with job, and must successfully complete in-house training. VHBG will provide you with a sign on bonus in the gross amount of $2,000.00 subject to any deductions permitted under law. $500 sign on bonus on second paycheck, and $1,500 Retention Bonus on payroll that includes their 1-year anniversary. If your employment with VHBG is ended for any reason prior to six months of employment, the first installment will be recouped in your final paycheck.
