The Risk Safety Manager role is critical for Virtua to become a transformative, highly reliable organization with an uncompromising focus on patient safety and outcomes. This position will be focused on the system and local level and can also be assigned to lead system-wide quality initiatives that impact multiple hospitals, service lines and all areas.
This Risk Safety Manager is responsible for effectively reporting, investigating, and analyzing patient safety incidents, medical errors and potential risks in the facility. The primary role is to foster a culture of continuous improvement and coordinate the systematic implementation of effective practices designed to reduce errors and improve patient outcomes and support the activities and projects approved by the Patient Safety Committee. The role provides consultations with appropriate groups, including management and staff, to educate on the system-based causes for error, and communicates evidence regarding patient safety strategies to others within the organization. The role includes planning and facilitating the organization's patient safety root cause analysis (RCA) program as well as tracking and trending of root causes.
The Risk Safety Manager will be responsible for performing safety investigations, risk management documentation, escalation procedures and execution of processes for safety assessments. This position will report to the AVP of Quality Management. The position will work collaboratively with key team members, Clinical Quality/Safety, Medical Affairs, and Regulatory Affairs departments in facilitating safety evaluations and decisions.

Summary:

Position Responsibilities:
• Obtains copies of patient insurance cards and identification and enters demographic, financial, insurance and clinical information into computer system; verifies completeness and accuracy of all data.
• Obtains signatures on all required documents for consent, medical necessity, and on required State, Federal and regulatory documentation. Processes all necessary paperwork.
• Correctly identifies, collects and processes co-pays, deductibles, co-insurance and deposits from patients and may facilitate resolution of billing issues by liaising with patient accounting, patient, and insurance representative.
• Identifies and provides appropriate referrals and payment options to patients needed financial assistance.
• Provides additional office support including telephones, scheduling, typing, filing, etc.
Position Qualifications Required / Experience Required:
1 year customer service in a professional setting (excludes retail/food service) preferred. Medical office or admittance experience preferred.
Must demonstrate a positive demeanor, have both strong verbal and written communication skills.
Must be able to handle potentially stressful situations and multiple tasks.
Must have basic typing, computer and/or word processing skills.
Required Education:
High School diploma.
Training / Certification / Licensure:
One year of Epic system experience highly preferred.
