What you will be doing Certified Surgical Technologist I Per Diem - Weekdays only, no weekends 6:30 am - 4:45 pm or 8:00 am - 6:15 pm $53/hr non-negotiable Ensuring the delivery of the highest quality of patient care, you will provide support to our Magnet surgical team. Your duties will include: assisting physicians and nurses in surgery using best practices of sterile technique, assembling, maintaining and tracking surgical instruments and equipment; and inspecting all packaged items to ensure integrity. We'll also rely on you to conduct pre-op, intra-op and post-op surgical counts according to AORN standards and maintaining the integrity of the surgical field during procedures. Responsible for assisting nursing personnel in giving quality care to patients in the operating room. Performs duties and responsibilities of a scrub person under the direction of a registered professional nurse. Assists in obtaining supplies, equipment and opening of operating and other rooms, as necessary. Breaks down setup and prepares instruments for sterilization. Helps transfer patients to the recovery room and cleans and restocks the operating room. Principal Accountabilities: 1. Checks and gathers all instruments for each case in assigned room with use of surgeon's preference card. 2. Checks sterility tapes, dates, and integrity of wrappers. 3. Opens sterile supplies for assigned cases, maintains a sterile field, and takes immediate action to correct any breaks in technique. 4. Performs surgical scrub techniques and gown and glove procedures for self and surgical team. 5. Arranges instruments, basins, sutures, and software in a precise manner for accurate count after the completion of surgical procedures. 6. Assists circulating nurses with counts of all sponges, cottonoids, needles, vessels loops, umbilical tape, penrose drains, and other devices and instruments. 7. Uses all devices and instruments appropriately and performs the standard draping technique. 8. Passes instruments to surgical team in a safe and efficient manner. 9. Performs other related duties as assigned. Assists in draping of patient and operative area according to need. * Assists and anticipates needs of surgeon for instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies according to knowledge of procedural requirements and constant monitoring of progress. * Maintains correct count of sponges, needles, and instruments with circulating nurse and report correctness or discrepancies according to established policy and procedure. * Maintains and monitors aseptic technique at all times, and institutes corrective measures in the event of contamination. * Assists in care, proper handling, labeling and disposition of specimens according to policy. Confirms proper labeling and documentation of specimens. * Inspects instruments, trays, and packages to ensure sterility and completeness and with no evidence of bioburden. Ensures proper functioning of instruments before use. * Correctly receives and labels solutions and medications on the sterile field. Verifies all solutions and medications with RN team member. * Participates in Universal Protocol; Sign in, Time out and sign out per policy. * Participates in Fire Risk Assessment. Ensures fire safety measures are met and communicated. * Demonstrates and understands use of all equipment in the patient care areas. Communicates malfunctioning equipment or instruments immediately and requests equipment be removed and sequestered appropriately until further investigation. * Maintains sharps safety measures in handling, transfer, and disposal. Patients with injuries that are stable but require ongoing close monitoring are admitted to this unit directly from the ED or the Ross Trauma Admitting Area. Patients are also admitted to the unit as they are downgraded from the Trauma/Surgical ICU or the Trauma Step-Down Unit. Patients usually cared for in this area include those with traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, rib fractures and lung injuries, as well as diverse orthopedic injuries requiring frequent monitoring and care. The unit is staffed with registered nurses, critical care technicians, trauma surgery nurse practitioners and resident physicians. Staff also work closely with respiratory therapy and specialized surgical groups such as orthopedics and neurosurgery. Nurses and critical care technicians working in this area receive education specific to the care of the trauma patient. The Operating Room Technician assists the surgical team during operating procedures under the direction of the Registered Nurse. The Technician provides direct patient care as a scrub/instrument person during surgery. Duties include arranging sterile set up, passing sponges, instruments and sutures, adjusting lights, cleaning operating room, and maintaining accurate sponge, needle and instrument count. The Technician assists with moving and positioning the patient as directed by the surgical registered nurse. This position delivers care in a prompt and professional manner, always maintaining the highest level of confidentiality and respect. The Technician works as part of the care team to meet the needs of the customer and to support departmental objectives. The Technician provides quality customer service, participates in performance improvement efforts and assumes responsibility for professional growth and development.
