SUMMARY OF PRINCIPAL & MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the general direction of the Chief Marketing Officer, the Film & Music Commissioner serves as the executive leader of the Corpus Christi Film & Music Commission, owning the vision, pipeline, and results that grow the city's creative economy. The Commissioner attracts and closes film, television, commercial, streaming, and music-festival business; oversees the commission's sales and marketing initiatives to expand demand; and acts as the one-stop liaison for permitting and logistics. The role partners with city, county, and state entities, including the Texas Film Commission and the Texas Music Office, maintains Film Friendly Texas and Music Friendly Texas designations, and owns KPI tracking and board-level reporting. Through focused business development and bold advocacy, the Commissioner showcases Corpus Christi's locations, talent, and venues to national decision-makers, delivering measurable economic impact and a stronger creative ecosystem.
CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time, Exempt: Bi-Monthly, Salary.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Essential Functions):
Serve as the executive leader of the Corpus Christi Film & Music Commission through setting vision and strategy, owning the pipeline and outcomes, and delivering monthly updates to the Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Executive Officer along with formal quarterly reports and dashboards to the Board.
Build and run a robust funnel for film, TV, commercial, streaming, and music events; prospect, pitch, negotiate, and close projects that drive measurable economic impact.
Serve as the one-stop liaison for productions: coordinate location scouting, permitting, logistics, public safety, parking, road closures, and community notifications; troubleshoot issues in real time.
Partner with city, county, and state to streamline permitting and modernize ordinances and guidelines.
Work closely with the Texas Film Commission and Texas Music Office on incentives, programs, co-marketing, and workforce alignment with state priorities.
Maintain Film Friendly Texas and Music Friendly Texas designations; lead compliance, workshops, documentation, and recertification; feature these credentials in all sales and marketing materials.
Manage local support tools; advise producers on maximizing state incentives, local spend, hires, and shoot days.
Market Corpus Christi's assets with targeted pitches and materials; manage location photography and the ReelScout library.
Plan and host FAM and scouting tours with tailored itineraries for key decision-makers.
Grow the music ecosystem-support signature festivals, seed new events, connect promoters, venues, and sponsors, and advance nighttime-economy policy.
Coordinate with VCC marketing and PR on integrated campaigns and media; produce case studies from successful projects.
Build workforce pathways with local schools and colleges; connect productions to local crew, talent, and vendors.
Own data, key performance indicators, and reporting: track leads, conversions, shoot days, production spend, permits, crew hires, lodging demand, and media value; deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and board packets and ongoing reporting as needed by the CEO.
Steward the commission budget; forecast, manage contracts, and secure grants, sponsorships, and cooperative funds.
Manage a small team and vendor bench; set priorities, coach performance, and enforce clear service standards.
Collaborate with community engagement initiatives in the Film & Music space; brief neighborhoods and venues, ensure guideline compliance, celebrate wins, and resolve concerns promptly.
Expand opportunities for underrepresented creators and crew across hiring, vendors, and storytelling.
Maintain CRM and inquiry service standards; keep databases, website/microsite, and directories current.
Travel for sales missions, festivals, and conferences; act as official spokesperson and represent the commission in high-stakes settings.
Other Functions:
Travel to attend industry events and to promote the destination to potential visitors (Up to 15% of the year)
Maintain governance/admin for the Commission (agendas, minutes, public notices) and support board packet logistics with VCC admin.
Manage the creative asset library (location stills, B-roll, case studies) and rights management.
Maintain a production risk/issue-management playbook (weather, neighborhood impacts, safety); serve as primary escalation contact.
Perform other duties as assigned to advance the mission of the Film & Music Commission.
