VISITOR SERVICES ASSOCIATE-EVENTS, Open Space Programming, to serve as a front-line MIT representative--in collaboration with MIT Admissions colleagues--at the new MIT Welcome Center in Kendall Square. Will provide event support for multiple programs and projects; help prepare for open space programming and rental events, including assisting with promoting events/programs on social media and the department's website; set up, staff, and break down a wide range of outdoor and indoor events; complete paperwork necessary to enable the success of the department; work with the team on the planning and logistics for upcoming events and coordinate event support services (e.g., catering, A/V, custodial help, etc.); occasionally staff the welcome desk and help visitors and local community members navigate campus and find a range of basic information about MIT; develop and maintain working knowledge of MIT's campus and destinations, open space programs, self-guided/structured campus tours, and general information about the Kendall Square/Cambridge/Boston area; and handle other duties and special projects as assigned.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; at least three years' related event experience; excellent organizational, customer service, and communication skills; good judgment and tact; attention to detail and accuracy; comfort working on multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision; willingness to learn MIT processes and systems; flexibility; and ability to lift weights of up to 25 lbs. Seek someone who is interested in public programs and community engagement and enjoys interacting with a wide variety of people, including tourists, prospective students and their families, and the general public. Job Responsibilities

  • Assist with the day-to-day duties of the Visitor Services Department, ensuring an internal and external exceptional visitor experience is upheld at all times.

  • Work at the Gift Shop counter selling merchandise.

Position Summary :

Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy is seeking part-time custodial staff for the Frick Environmental Center . Candidates must have a minimum of three years’ experience in the custodial/janitorial field. Detailed knowledge of cleaning procedures, the ability to work independently, be dependable, have strong customer service skills and be able to follow directions is required. Knowledge of environmentally friendly cleaning supplies is preferred. The successful candidate will have an excellent attendance record and a strong work ethic. Must be able to work mornings, afternoons, weekends and some holidays.

Schedule will range 20 to 30 hours per week.

Compensation is $15/hour

Position Duties:

Performs under the general supervision of the Visitor Service Supervisor and is responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:

  • Perform daily cleaning of Frick Environmental Center and the surrounding areas including but not limited to vacuuming, sweeping, mopping floors, emptying trash/recycling/compost containers, dusting, cleaning glass surfaces, cleaning and sanitizing high-traffic areas including offices, kitchens, hallways, stairwells and bathrooms.
  • Seasonal work outdoors, including but not limited to the cleaning of public restrooms on the grounds, clean up after pets, snow removal, applying ice melt, assisting the horticulture team, and related duties as assigned.
  • Organize and keep inventory of supplies.
  • Report any maintenance or safety concerns to the Senior Manager of Visitor Experience.
  • Assist with maintenance including but not limited to painting, changing light bulbs, or other duties as assigned.
  • Assist guests who have rented the space with set-up (including AV equipment), clean-up and other general requests they may have concerning the building.
  • Ability to answer questions concerning the facility or park in a friendly manor.
  • Be an integral part in shaping the knowledge, understanding and appreciation that visitors have for Pittsburgh Parks.
  • Positively and constructively address issues with staff, guests, vendors and tenants.
  • Share information about the park’s resources, programs and history with visitors.
  • Implement work plan based on calendar of programs and events.
  • Provide input, recommendations, and support to the Conservancy staff.
