Fernando Sañudo joined the VCC team in 1988 as a Health Educator, and in his nearly thirty years with the organization, he’s held additional positions as Project Coordinator, Health Program Center Director, and Clinic Administrator. His wide range of expertise with the clinic includes program research, design, and evaluation, as well as extensive experience in community outreach and education. He has been an Independent Consultant for both the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) as a professional grant reviewer and Project Concern International in the area of program design and evaluation. Mr. Sañudo is also adjunct faculty at the University of San Diego (USD) and teaches Design and Evaluation for the Master's Program in Nonprofit Administration and Leadership. Mr. Sañudo has co-authored several chapters in books and professional journals regarding HIV-prevention and in 2008, he was named the “Health Champion of the Year” for Molina.

As CEO for VCC, Mr. Sañudo leads an executive team of nine members, in addition to a staff of over 500 employees, in addition to over 100 volunteers. Working with the Board of Directors, Mr. Sañudo provides oversight to all aspects of VCC’s operations and liaisons with the local and regional government on important health care advocacy issues. He’s been inspired by watching VCC grow over the course of his three decades with the organization and seeing the impact that a functional community clinic model can have on overall community health.

Michele Lambert joined the VCC team in 2005, out of a desire to put her corporate knowledge base and skill set to work for a service-based organization. She holds an MBA from San Diego State University and has maintained positions in the service and manufacturing industries as CFO and Vice President Finance/Controller. Her strong skills in all facets of finance, accounting, business strategy, and human resources management make her a vital member of the VCC team. Ms. Lambert’s achievements at VCC include assisting the organization to become the first Community Health Center in San Diego to implement Electronic Health Records as well as securing one of only 80 National Facility Improvement Grants under the Federal Recovery Act Program.

At VCC, Ms. Lambert oversees finance, accounting, billing, and facilities for our five-site, healthcare organization. She works with the CEO to set the organization’s financial goals and direction and ensures accurate financial reporting and governmental compliance. She’s inspired in her work with VCC by being able to help those who may not have the resources to access the services that some of us take for granted. Ms. Lambert believes that, despite one’s background, all people should be treated with the same level of respect and have access to the same high level of care.

Betsy Heightman joined the VCC team in 1995 because she wanted to be part of creating a healthy community for all. Ms. Heightman has over thirty years of experience as a Paralegal, Administrative Director, and Development Director. In 2014 she was a graduate of the “Leadership North County” program at CSUSM, which focuses on developing leaders who will serve as catalysts in building a stronger region. In her tenure with VCC, she has run a successful Capital Campaign that exceeded its fundraising goal, implemented our first Gala, which also exceeded its fundraising goal, and established an organization-wide Endowment Campaign.

As our Chief Development Officer, Ms. Heightman is responsible for the design and implementation of comprehensive fundraising for our regional, five-site nonprofit. She also develops and implements strategic approaches for our annual fund solicitation, major gift acquisition and renewal, and corporate and foundation relations. Ms. Heightman is committed to helping VCC grow its valuable services and programs through the donations made by philanthropic individuals and businesses.

Nannette Stamm joined the VCC team in 2004 because of our commitment to ensuring that not only every patient is healthy, but also that the broader community is healthy. Ms. Stamm took a brief leave of absence in 2008 to work in Bolivia, using her fluency in Spanish to oversee five comprehensive health ministries in Cochabamba. She’s also worked as a Comprehensive Perinatal Health Worker in addition to completing research at the Center for Children’s Environmental Health Research at UC Berkley, where she completed her Masters in Public Health with an emphasis on Maternal and Child Health.

At VCC, Ms. Stamm is responsible for directing and supervising community and in-house health promotion and education programs. She also oversees program contract monitoring, evaluation activities, and staff supervision of the Health Promotion Center. Ms. Stamm’s program focus includes youth development, alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention, migrant services, HIV/AIDS services, general VCC outreach, and maternal and child health. In addition, she oversees the grant development for the entire organization. Ms. Stamm is inspired by knowing that, every day she comes to work, she’s helping to make positive changes in the lives of people, especially those who need it most.
