Vitamix company history timeline

1921

In 1921, the company’s founder William Grover “Papa” Barnard started his career selling kitchen appliances.

1936

1936 – THE ROAD TO THE VITA-MIX

1948

1948 – WORLD HEADQUARTERS ESTABLISHED

1955

1955 Second generation takes the lead

1962

1962 Third generation takes the lead

1964

In 1964 Bill Barnard took over the family business and changed the name of the company from The Natural Food to Vita-Mix Corporation.

1966

In 1966, the company name is changed to Vita-Mix Corporation.

1969

The granddaddy of the Vitamix machines, the Vitamix 3600, was released in 1969.

1981

John Barnard, Bill and Ruth’s son and brother to Grover, rejoins the company in 1981 as head engineer.

1985

Grover goes on to become president in 1985.

1988

The Vita-Mix 4000 followed in 1988, offering professionals a commercially rated version of the 3600.

1999

John will go on to heavily influence product development, as well as manufacturing and sales, before becoming president in 1999.

2002

2002 – RETAIL EXPANSION

2009

Jodi Berg, a fourth-generation family member, has served as the company’s president since 2009.

2010

An updated version of the popular front-of-house restaurant blending machine originally released in 2010, this model comes with six optimized programs, 34 settings, 93 variable speeds, and automatic shut-off.

2013

Vitamix doubles its production capabilities and expands in a new facility in Strongsville, Ohio, USA. By 2013, Vitamix hits the 1 million mark in machines manufactured over a single year.

2021

Still a family-owned organization, Vitamix is celebrating its centennial in 2021.

2022
