The IEC Convention in Stockholm, Sweden, pronounced the VMEbus an official IEC Standard: IEC 821 BUS, on September 11, 1986, bringing to fruition a four-year effort to develop the standard.
Beginning in 1991, LINC offered individual consultations for people with visual, developmental, and physical disabilities, a computer resource lab, computer arts, technical support, and programs such as computer clubs and an inclusive summer camp.
In 1992, the VITA Technical Committee suspended work with the IEEE and sought accreditation as a standards developer organization (SDO) with the American National Standards Institute.
