Job responsibilities:
Essential Functions:
Deliver individualized competency based instruction through classroom and laboratory management in the occupational program areas taught to inmates. Develop performance objectives and criterion-referenced tests in accordance with established program content. Review, select and adapt instructional materials to help individuals reach mastery of the competencies required for entry, advancement and upgrading occupations. Plan activities to efficiently initiate budget requests to assure that all equipment, supplies and materials are available to support a progressive training schedule. Monitor motivation, discipline and learning difficulties to bring about positive changes in the behavior of inmates. Execute all applicable forms to adhere to facility procedures. Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed. Maintain accountability of inmates and property; adhere to safety practices. It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.

Education and Experience Requirements:
Texas State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) area of assignment.
OR
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or United States Department of Education (USDE) and three (3) years full-time, wage-earning experience within the last eight (8) years in the subject content area of assignment.
OR
Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED and five (5) years full-time, wage-earning experience within the last eight (8) years in the subject content area of assignment. Valid driver's license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.

Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements and pass an annual background check, both of which must be approved by TDCJ.

Part-time position working 15 to 20 hours per week. Hours are scheduled during high school hours.

Are you looking for a position where you will make a positive difference in the lives of youth and adults with disabilities? If yes, our Vocational Instructor position is for you. The Instructor helps students with disabilities learn and understand the expectations of successful employment, facilitating AHLEI training curriculum in a high school setting with various instructional approaches exploring topics such as work personality, work interests, work values, and identification of transferable skills. Students will be able to obtain nationally recognized certificates in the hotel and lodging industry. The Instructor will provide assistance to students in obtaining job readiness skills, job searching, job placement, on-the-job training, job coaching and support. Travel to various classroom locations in Orlando is required.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Associate's degree from an accredited college or university and two years' experience or employment in a public vocational rehabilitation program; experience in job placement, job coaching, or counseling, or other related experience working with persons with disabilities; or
  • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in rehabilitation, counseling, social work, psychology, education, human resources, business administration, or economics
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
  • Experience working with persons with disabilities on job skills training, self-advocacy training, or daily living skills training, as well as assisting with personal needs such as monitoring behaviors, is preferred
  • An energetic and creative individual who will portray and promote a positive, respectful, and team-based environment
  • (VR) Vocational Rehabilitation Employment Specialist certification (preferred)
  • (AHLEI) American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute Train the Trainer certification (within 30 days of hire)
  • CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Teaching certificate preferred but not required
  • Ability to meet our approved driver qualifications in order to drive your personal vehicle, as required, to drive to meetings and for other business-related needs (minimum age of 21 and good driving history)

Woods Services vocational instructor job description

Utilizes teaching techniques, materials, curricular resources and professional consultation as necessary to develop, refine and enhance the vocational skills of the clients at TWE. Maintains consistent records of client behavior, work performance, progress on goals, and client payroll.
Responsibilities:
Provides a prescriptive and evaluative vocational program. Works with each individual's team to develop and implement an individualized plan that best meets the client's personal and professional growth and is consistent with Licensure Requirements.
Responsible for the oversight of their assigned group area. Creates a welcoming environment and delegates assignments to residential counselors and/or instructional aides in the implementation of client programming and program site operations.
Oversees production within their assigned group area, ensuring work quality and compliance with deadlines. Maintains accurate client payroll records.
Utilizes an electronic health record to ensure all necessary documentation for individuals (behavior, attendance, etc) is completed, up to date, and accurate.
Maintains consistent records of client behavior, attendance, work performance and production, and progress on program goals. Prepares and submits accurate data to designated team member(s) for all required reports according to due dates.
Plans and implements productive and educational activities for clients ensuring choice and active engagement during all program hours.
Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work environment, which includes being respectful of shared space and the assurance of inventory and maintenance of all materials and equipment.
Assists in the development, implementation, and documentation of client outcomes and individualized programs (ISP, BSP), as appropriate.
Utilizes and maintains adaptive devices and equipment as stipulated in the client's ISP to assist the client in the acquisition of functional skills to enhance performance in specific tasks.
Assists clients in the areas of personal care and activities of daily living (including meal times, bathroom, etc) as stipulated in the ISP.

Responsible for maintaining familiarity with applicable licensing regulations to include Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare (2390 regulations), the United States Department of Labor, and funding agency requirements.
Assists with client arrival to and dismissal from the program, as needed.
Meets and maintains all annual training and regulatory requirements.
Attends and participates in staff meetings, and special events or assignments, as requested.
Acts as a support to all Woods' adult day programs, to include participation in cross training, if appropriate.
Displays professionalism and maintains effective communication and relationships with all levels of staff and management.
Performs all other duties as assigned to meet the needs and ensure effectiveness and efficiency of the program.
Qualifications:
Must be 18 years of age or older, and have a minimum of one year's experience in a vocational setting serving adults with developmental disabilities.
Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, be agile, physically pursue clients on foot, physically restrain, bend, squat, stretch, reach, push up and stand for several hours at a time.
Must be able to read, write, enter dates and follow verbal/written directions, prepare written reports and complete written forms in English. Must be able to verbally communicate in English and direct clients, respond to clients needs.
