The Department of Exercise Science (******************** at the University of South Carolina (USC) Arnold School of Public Health (ASPH - *************** invites applications for an open rank tenure-track faculty position to begin August 16, 2026. This position is part of a Presidential initiative for strategic hires in identified areas of interest across the university.The successful candidate will have, or be able to develop, collaborative multi-disciplinary, translational research programs with a focus on biomechanics that complement or enhance research within the Department and across ASPH. Research programs of particular interest will have a primary emphasis on human health, performance, and/or injury.
The Department offers degrees at the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral level with programs in exercise science, athletic training, and physical therapy. The PhD program is consistently one of the top ranked programs in the US, and USC is among the top sport science universities in the US and the world. The Department currently serves approximately 1200 undergraduates and over 270 graduate students across all programs. Successful applicants will be expected to contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching and research, as well as supervise graduate students. The Department and Arnold School of Public Health have numerous researchers with a focus on exercise and health, performance, nutrition, endocrinology, metabolism, genetics, neuroscience, obesity, children's health, and special populations. The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina invites applicants for an assistant/associate/full, tenure track, full time (9-month) faculty position. The faculty member will be responsible for developing and maintaining an independent, extramurally funded program of research within their area(s) of expertise and to maintain a teaching load of two courses per year. The individual will share research space within the Department. They will also be responsible for contributing to service to the Department and University and in their field.
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders hosts an active and collaborative research faculty and clinical faculty, with existing strengths in child language and literacy, dysphagia, aphasia, neurodevelopmental disorders, hearing loss, cochlear implants, voice, multilingualism, and neurodegenerative disease. Our faculty have strong ties with community entities including local public and private schools, Prisma Health, the local VA hospital, as well as with research groups across the university, including:

We currently have 29 full-time faculty and offer a CAA-accredited speech-language pathology master's degree program (in two modalities, on-campus and via distance-learning) as well as a PhD program. We offer a low teaching load to support faculty in developing and maintaining their research programs. The Department is housed within the Arnold School of Public Health, which hosts a highly active and interdisciplinary research community, with over $59 million in extramural funding garnered in 2024. The Carnegie Foundation ranks the University of South Carolina as a "very high research activity" institution (R1).

Required Education and Experience
A PhD or equivalent research doctoral degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Disorders, or a related discipline (e.g., Psychology, Education) is required. Concurrent academic experience is highly preferred. Applicants at the rank of Assistant Professor must also have demonstrated evidence of high-quality scholarly research, the potential to successfully compete for external research funding, teach graduate-level courses, and collaborate with other researchers, including clinical researchers. Applicants at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor must be accomplished scholars with years of experience in research, teaching, and service commensurate with academic policy and: 1) a substantial publication record in top-tier journals, 2) a record of securing research grants from national and international funding agencies, 3) a history of successful graduate student supervision, and 4) the leadership skills necessary to mentor junior faculty and students, contribute to curriculum development, and engage in interdisciplinary collaboration across the university.
