Under general supervision, this class is responsible for public safety work in various patrol precincts of the Sheriff's Office. The Youth Activities Worker is a key line-level position responsible for providing leadership and supervision for assigned children of the after-school and/or summer activities. This is not an all-inclusive list of the duties and responsibilities of this position. Essential Functions
Ensures the safety and well-being of participants of various ages from a variety of physical and behavioral backgrounds.
Implements approved behavior management strategies to ensure an orderly environment.
Supervises participants while participating in indoor and outdoor activities such as games, arts & crafts, educational and cultural activities, field trips, swimming, short hikes, sports, and other daily activities.
Maintains a highly motivated and charged atmosphere with a good relationship with the participants, parents, general public, and other staff members.
Assists the Site Supervisor-PreK-12th and/or applicable staff in planning, implementing, and carrying out daily activities, maintaining accurate daily records of assigned group.
Assists the Site Supervisor-PreK-12th in the preparation of weekly schedules and plan of activities.
Inspects area for any safety concerns and reports them to the Field Supervisor.
Ensures that all members are following all policies.
Must fully inform the Site Supervisor-PreK-12th and/or applicable staff of any possible problems relating to program and/or participants.
Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate person.
Job Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required or must be a currently enrolled high school student or be enrolled in a GED program.
Must have six (6) months of full-time employment experience working with young children.
Must possess certification of “Mandatory Reporter Training” or obtain certification during the first week of employment.
Must possess and maintain First Aid/CPR certification or obtain within ninety (90) days of employment.
Must be eighteen (18) years old or older.
Ability to work odd and irregular hours, as needed.
Must successfully pass the required criminal and character background check.
Ability to travel and participate in required training, leadership development, and other events.
Ability to perform all duties and responsibilities of this position adequately and successfully.

NATURE OF WORK
This is a paraprofessional position designed to relieve law enforcement personnel from non-police, non-hazardous service calls and duties.
Employees in this classification are responsible for assisting with law enforcement-related complaints which do not require arrest powers, but do involve traffic duties and responsibilities for the accurate, rapid and effective evaluation of, and response to, telephone calls for information and police assistance. Perfect Attendance:
For every six (6) months period (April 1 - September 30) and (October 1 - March 31) in which, no sick or unpaid leave is utilized, an employee shall receive ten (10) hours of annual leave credited. Employees who qualify for a consecutive Perfect Attendance benefit shall receive fourteen (14) hours of annual leave credited for each applicable consecutive earning period.
Sick Leave:
Each employee earns (96) hours (12 days) of sick leave annually with no waiting period for use and unlimited accrual. Upon separation of City employment due to resignation, employee shall receive payment of all accrued sick leave at a rate of twenty-five percent (25%) of the employee's current rate of pay at time of resignation. Upon separation of employment due to retirement, employee shall receive payment of all accrued sick leave at a rate of fifty percent (50%) of the employee's current rate of pay at the time of retirement.
Sick Leave Conversion:
After completion of one (1) year of continuous, full-time employment with the City, an employee may convert their unused portion of their first six (6) days (maximum of forty-eight (48) hours) of accrued sick leave into annual leave. Conversions are subject to the following: A minimum of 96 unused sick leave hours accrued prior to hours being converted, total eligible sick leave hours to be converted shall be reduced hour-for-hour by any sick leave hours utilized during the eligible benefit period, and conversion subject to annual leave accrual cap.
