Reviews preoperative patient charts in order to ensure that all forms are signed and that all tests are completed; informs appropriate nursing personnel of discrepancy. Assists in surgical room preparation by ensuring basic supplies are available such as blankets, solutions, and syringes. Cleans furniture and equipment between cases. Delivers cultures and surgery specimens to designated areas of the Hospital for analysis as appropriate.Assists in general cleaning and maintenance of the Operating Room such as washing equipment, sorting and stocking supplies, cleaning room, washing stretchers and changing light bulbs and the like.Cleans, dries, packages and seals a variety of supplies and material to be sterilized, such as washing, assembling and wrapping basin sets for sterilization. Occasionally operates steam/water pressure sterilizers in order to clean and sterilize items.Assembles patient record packs of charge slips, appropriate for specific surgical procedure, to be completed by others. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BASIC KNOWLEDGE:High School Diploma or GED required.Ability to recognized changes in patient's condition and report such to nursing personnel.Ability to perform simple numerical calculations in order to calculate and requisition supplies.Knowledge of aseptic techniques in order to ensure proper cleaning of rooms, equipment and materials.Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.Ability to read, write and understand English, with ability to perform simple numerical calculations.EXPERIENCE:One to three months' on-the-job training and experience.
