Job Description

Responsible for cleaning buildings, removing debris, and keeping areas neat and tidy. Vacuums and buffs floors, shampoos carpets, empties trash receptacles, and replace lining of trash cans. Compensation: $16.90 per hour
Hours: 0-10 per week
As a reserve position, new employees are hired into this position with an expectation of 0-10 scheduled hours each week, but additional hours may become available and be offered. Shift opportunities may include days, nights, and weekends.
Top Responsibilities:
Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them. Gather and empty trash. Service, clean, and supply restrooms.
Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
Steam-clean or shampoo carpets.

Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Requirements:
Believes and adheres to the beliefs and vision of Bethel Church.
Ability to lift constantly over 20 lbs and up to 50 lbs.
Working knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment and the ability to use them economically and efficiently.
Ability to read and understand labels and instructions, particularly on the use and application of cleaning chemicals and products.
Willingness to perform custodial and other manual tasks.

General Description:
The individuals in this position are responsible for day-to-day cleaning, setting up and breaking down all

Essential Job Functions
The custodian is a part-time position reporting to Facilities Coordinator. The custodian will maintain
tasks as listed below as a summary of specific job responsibilities on a daily basis:
• Cleaning of glass doors and windows.
• Vacuuming of all carpeted areas of the Church.
• Cleaning and sanitizing all restrooms.
• Replenishing supplies in restrooms (bath tissue, soap, hand towels).

OVERVIEW OF POSITION: Under direct supervision, performs a variety of custodial duties for assigned Child Development Center(s), inclusive of all interior space and adjunct exterior property to maintain a clean, orderly, and comfortable environment for ESSC associates, participants, and guests.

Maintains administrative, eating, and child activity areas in clean, sanitary, and orderly conditions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Clean the interior of buildings, including floors, carpets, rugs, windows and walls, and general tasks.

PAY RATE: $18.15 - $19.10 PER HOUR

JOB SUMMARY AND PURPOSE
The Custodian I performs daily janitorial duties, and immediate minor repairs to the assigned facility, reporting any maintenance or safety deficiency to management for correction. Performs all tasks needed to maintain cleanliness, sanitation and safety of the facility, adhering to janitorial schedules provided. May be tasked to perform at multiple locations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintains the interior and exterior of the facility, including building, parking lot and grounds, in good condition
Daily cleaning of assigned areas using various cleaning products
Restock bathrooms
Wash and replace room linen daily or as required
Responsible for dusting, window cleaning, waste cans, and vacuuming lobby area and hallways.
Performs or assists in minor repairs that might include the following: Carpentry, Plumbing, Interior painting, Refurbishing and cleaning, Landscape and irrigation systems.
Follows daily checklist provided by supervisor; Assures tools and supplies are stocked and appropriately secured in store rooms; maintains cleanliness and order of store rooms
Checks facility daily for any safety concerns; understands local and building safety codes and requirements as well as OSHA, health department and EPA requirements; reports all deficiencies to management
Prepares and sets-up rooms for meetings, classes and events
As required, travels to various VOALA Children Services facilities
Other duties as assigned
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Perform daily janitorial work, checking facility for maintenance or safety issues.
Performs minor repairs, reports deficiencies to management
Assists maintenance teams when required
Event set-up
Keeps inventory of tools and supplies current
Other duties as required and may be subject to change
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications
Proof at the time of hire
TB clearance within 6 months' prior
Annual Influenza vaccination (between Nov. 1st - Mar. 31st)
Pertussis (whooping cough) and measles immunization
Health screening at the time of employment
Requires ability to interact with children in a busy environment including, but not limited to:
Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Frequently kneel and squat
Ability to move quickly
California Drivers license in good standing, good driving record and insurance in force.
EXPERIENCE:
Experience cleaning high foot traffic areas and bathrooms, or similar building maintenance experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma (or GED/High School Equivalence Certificate)
Custodial or building maintenance experience in a shelter or a school setting preferred
Ability to read and write instructions in English preferred
Background in construction trades a plus
Proven familiarity with homelessness and related issues a plus
