In the most respectful way possible, I've never wanted to kill myself more. Management was absolutely disrespectful and did nothing for your benefit.

At least after you get taken out in an ambulance and then receiving a demerit for that, they'll call and ask if you're ok

I liked that they would close on holidays.

Almost everything else. For years their dress code was sexist to women and old fashioned. I could never suggest clothes from the store because their sizing is so limited. Management tends to run on a bullying system as well and employees who were genuinely good at their jobs but didn’t act like a Von Maur robot were either fired or made to quit.

The benefits were decent but you could never take time off to use them.

The environment was really good and it challenged me to work with the people and help them find the type of clothing they wanted to buy

Some of the co-workers weren’t extremely nice towards me and the scheduling was always a mess and interfered with my schooling.

They co-workers that were actually fun to work with and got along with brought me such confidence and self-esteem. I’ve always been super shy and being there brought me out of my shell which always brought me such joy to work there

Job security. Reputable company with competitive pay and benefits.

Hours. Some retail stores includind Von Maur are open too late for a fair work life balance.

Being African American you are treated horribly and diversity training did not help. They will definitely make you feel you’re not wanted there.
