What You'll Do: Promote Safety. In accordance with MSHA and Vulcan standards, take an active role in prioritizing safety throughout the operation for yourself and others at all times. Operate Heavy Equipment. Safely operate off-highway equipment to transport raw materials and/or finished products throughout the facility safely and efficiently. Inspect Equipment. Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections and accurately complete daily mobile equipment reports and other relevant documentation. Maintain Equipment. Maintain equipment performance by checking vehicle fluid levels, adding the correct fluids as necessary, and assisting in performing other minor maintenance. Monitor Processes, Materials, or Surroundings. Monitor the plant and operations and report any necessary maintenance or adjustments to ensure safety. Skills You'll Need: Experience. Previous experience operating heavy construction equipment is preferred. Knowledge of Best Practices. Knowledge of general principles and practices of operating and servicing heavy construction equipment is preferred. Flexibility. Must be willing to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands. What You'll Do: Champion Safety. Take an active role in prioritizing safety throughout the operation for yourself and others at all times in accordance with MSHA and Vulcan standards. Perform duties safely, responsibly, and proficiently. Oversee Projects. Conduct analysis of customer and job specifications. Assist in new product development. Oversee special, high visibility, or large projects. Train QC Personnel. Train QC department personnel in proper testing procedures within the lab and in the field to optimize team efforts and efficient performance. Conduct Testing. Inspect, sample, and conduct routine and special laboratory testing on construction materials in conformance with appropriate standard test methods. Perform tests to ensure quality of products during production, shipping, and at job sites. Review Test Results. Review, monitor, and maintain the test results of the data and adjust blends when required. Review material quality test results for conformance (per ASTM, AASHTO and appropriate DOT procedures) in order to meet Vulcan's standards for quality products. Communicate test results to supervisors, plant personnel, and plant site QC. Ensure proper documentation of results in the QC database. Prepare Reports. Prepare submittals for the various products. Prepare statistical summary quality reports on VMC Aggregate products. Troubleshoot. Perform troubleshooting of field and jobsite problems. Visually inspect material sources, stockpiles, and truck loads at Aggregate plants. Troubleshoot problem jobs and specifications. Champion Continuous Improvement. Stay abreast of professional and technical developments in order to maintain and improve the skills and knowledge needed for superior job performance and to help improve operational efficiency. Additional Responsibilities. Other duties as assigned. Skills You'll Need: Education. Must have your high school diploma or its equivalent. Associate's or Bachelor's degree is preferred. Experience. Five years of construction materials testing experience in construction materials to include aggregates, asphalt, and ready mix concrete is preferred. Must possess superior working knowledge in at least one product line and have skill in all product lines. Testing Knowledge. Individual must be skilled in basic ASTM, AASHTO, and ADOT testing procedures applicable to our complete product line. Must be knowledgeable in product related specifications and finished products. Interpersonal Skills. Must have strong verbal communications skills for interacting with plant production personnel, plant managers, sales personnel, customers, and agency representatives. Analytical Skills. Skill in general statistical analysis, math, and engineering concepts is preferred. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive, Oracle Business Environment, and other software packages relevant to the position. Time Management Skills. Must have the ability to perform material testing in an orderly, efficient, and accurate manner. Flexibility. Must be willing to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands. Responsibilities * Research, identify and analyze new jobs to bid, determining bonding licensing and permitting requirements and identifying risks and opportunities specific to each potential new job. * Creating and delivering project estimates that include labor, equipment, materials and subcontractor pricing. * Perform accurate full project take-offs and determine applicable project schedules and scopes * Oversee contract execution process to ensure all terms and conditions are included in final contract * Solicit and negotiate proposals from necessary subcontractors and oversee them through all phases of the contract process * Producing and submitting pre-construction materials ensuring accuracy and completion of all necessary items to start work on a project once the contract has been executed. * Manage subcontractor schedule, job progress, and billings * Communicating effectively with all internal and external stakeholders; including, but not limited to fellow employees, operations, subcontractors, customers, and onsite personnel. * Create and issue invoices to contractors for work completed in a pay period, managing margins on projects, approving subcontractor pay applications, submitting cost to completes on projects each month, and managing all change order work. * Following project start-up and close-out procedures ensuring all regulatory requirements are met, documents are submitted and the project meets all applicable standards. * Overseeing accuracy of all daily tracking requirements, which include complete and accurate reporting using Build2Win, E-Rocks, JD Edwards and excel spreadsheets as well as cost accounting, review, and forecasting including billing, A/R and A/P functions. * Create and maintain a contract backlog and bid activity spreadsheet Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * Presents complex information clearly in both written reports and verbal briefings to internal teams and external stakeholders. * Uses Microsoft Office, budgeting tools, and scheduling software (e.g., Excel, QuickBooks, MS Project) to manage operations and reporting. * Leads team engagement initiatives to enhance collaboration and productivity across departments. * Builds and maintains professional partnerships with client representatives and local agency officials to support project goals. * Mediates operational disputes and negotiates resolutions using conflict de-escalation strategies and policy guidelines. * Coordinates multiple projects by prioritizing tasks, allocating resources, and meeting tight deadlines with minimal oversight. * Adapts to varying work schedules, including evenings and weekends, to ensure coverage during critical operational periods. * Initiates tasks independently, setting performance goals and managing accountability without direct supervision.
