What You'll Do: Champion Safety. Take an active role in prioritizing safety throughout the operation for yourself and others at all times in accordance with MSHA and Vulcan standards. Perform duties safely, responsibly, and proficiently. Oversee Projects. Conduct analysis of customer and job specifications. Assist in new product development. Oversee special, high visibility, or large projects. Train QC Personnel. Train QC department personnel in proper testing procedures within the lab and in the field to optimize team efforts and efficient performance. Conduct Testing. Inspect, sample, and conduct routine and special laboratory testing on construction materials in conformance with appropriate standard test methods. Perform tests to ensure quality of products during production, shipping, and at job sites. Review Test Results. Review, monitor, and maintain the test results of the data and adjust blends when required. Review material quality test results for conformance (per ASTM, AASHTO and appropriate DOT procedures) in order to meet Vulcan's standards for quality products. Communicate test results to supervisors, plant personnel, and plant site QC. Ensure proper documentation of results in the QC database. Prepare Reports. Prepare submittals for the various products. Prepare statistical summary quality reports on VMC Aggregate products. Troubleshoot. Perform troubleshooting of field and jobsite problems. Visually inspect material sources, stockpiles, and truck loads at Aggregate plants. Troubleshoot problem jobs and specifications. Champion Continuous Improvement. Stay abreast of professional and technical developments in order to maintain and improve the skills and knowledge needed for superior job performance and to help improve operational efficiency. Additional Responsibilities. Other duties as assigned. Skills You'll Need: Education. Must have your high school diploma or its equivalent. Associate's or Bachelor's degree is preferred. Experience. Five years of construction materials testing experience in construction materials to include aggregates, asphalt, and ready mix concrete is preferred. Must possess superior working knowledge in at least one product line and have skill in all product lines. Testing Knowledge. Individual must be skilled in basic ASTM, AASHTO, and ADOT testing procedures applicable to our complete product line. Must be knowledgeable in product related specifications and finished products. Interpersonal Skills. Must have strong verbal communications skills for interacting with plant production personnel, plant managers, sales personnel, customers, and agency representatives. Analytical Skills. Skill in general statistical analysis, math, and engineering concepts is preferred. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive, Oracle Business Environment, and other software packages relevant to the position. Time Management Skills. Must have the ability to perform material testing in an orderly, efficient, and accurate manner. Flexibility. Must be willing to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands. Responsible for accurately preparing, estimating, and reviewing bids for demolition work with an emphasis in roadway, highway and bridge projects along with other market segments including residential and commercial projects (50%). Managing all aspects of demolition contracts including contract administration, subcontractor coordination/payment, job cost tracking, collections and project close out (25%). What You'll Do: Champion Safety. Take an active role in prioritizing safety throughout the operation for yourself and others at all times in accordance with MSHA and Vulcan standards. Support all Company and regulatory policies, rules, and regulations. Conduct Training. Conduct site-specific training for employees, vendors, or other persons at the facility. Communicate and Coordinate. Communicate with employees regarding work assignments and correcting problems. Assist in troubleshooting issues. Perform General Physical Activities. Perform a variety of physical tasks. Assist with the loading/unloading and operation of the train, including breaking/making trains and using high-pressure water hoses, pry bars, and shovels. Operate Train and Related Equipment. Assist in operating the train on its assigned route. Operate hand-controlled rail switches, manual hand-wheel brakes, uncoupling levers, and remote control devices. Repair and Maintain Plant Equipment. Perform minor repairs and maintenance activities around the train to improve performance and safety, including replacing heavy coupling and replacing broken knuckles or air brake hoses. Document and Record Information. Maintain and enter records of price, product, weight, and customer name into computers. Generate bills of sale, dray tickets, and bills of lading. Assist with Various Tasks. Work through various assignments, such as assisting with financial reports, payroll, or procurement activities. Additional Responsibilities. Other duties as assigned.
