We are seeking an experienced Civil/Structural Engineer based in our Irwindale, CA office to lead and manage multiple infrastructure and building projects, including structural steel analysis, design, and construction for heavy industries such as sand and gravel processing plants, plant upgrades, and site improvements. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, proven project management abilities, and the skills to coordinate multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and stakeholders. This role involves hands-on engineering and oversight from concept through construction, maintaining effective communication with plant operators, ensuring permit compliance, and building strong relationships with local agencies. What You'll Do: Champion Safety. Take an active role in prioritizing safety throughout the operation for yourself and others at all times in accordance with MSHA and Vulcan standards. Inspect plant systems to ensure that they are safe for operating personnel. Manage Standards. Recommend and develop division-wide design standards, as well as Construction Standards for the division. Provide Design Services. Develop structural general arrangement drawings, including both steel and concrete requirements. Develop mechanical general arrangement drawings, including process flow diagrams. Provide all required design services to meet project demands. Ensure all designs comply fully with the appropriate design codes and all applicable local codes. Coordinate Engineering Services. Coordinate and review engineering services provided by outside parties and internal designers. Consult with the division's construction services personnel on appropriate construction methods for projects. Assist with Construction Projects. Assist in securing necessary construction permits. Recommend necessary equipment and materials for each project. Review finished work to ensure compliance with project specifications. Manage Projects. Develop cost estimates, equipment specifications, and proposals. Schedule work to meet completion dates and technical specifications. Monitor work in progress to ensure that quality and engineering standards are met. Review changes to designs or schedules as necessary. Monitor and forecast project cost. Collaborate. Work closely with Procurement and Vendors to expedite deliveries when items are needed for construction. Assist in the contractor selection process. Review and approve work completed by outside contractors as needed. Additional Responsibilities. Other duties as assigned. Skills You'll Need: Education. Degree in Engineering required. BS Civil Engineer or BS Structural Engineer preferred. Experience. Minimum of 10 years of structural engineering experience, including heavy industrial projects License. A PE or EIT license is preferred. Functional Knowledge. Must have a thorough knowledge of design specifications, building codes, and the equipment utilized within the company's plants. Proficiency in engineering software (spreadsheets, word processing, AutoCAD, structural analysis/design tools). Communication Skills. Must have strong written and oral communication skills. Required Qualifications: * Ability to perform all phases of structural engineering tasks, including investigation, inspection, modeling, analysis, and design of steel and concrete structures. * Experience in preparing building permits and strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and permitting. * Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams. * Demonstrated project management experience, including budgeting, scheduling, and team coordination. * Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Preferred Experience: * Experience with public infrastructure permitting and regulatory compliance. * Expertise in concrete foundation and steel structure design and construction. * Familiarity with heavy industrial projects, including open-pit mining and equipment load analysis. * Field experience with inspections, retrofits, and construction support; bridge construction experience is a plus. * Experience with construction management, vibration monitoring, concrete foundation design/analysis, and site grading/drainage design. Salary Range: the base salary range for this role is between $130,000 to $160,000 annual salary. This range is not inclusive of our discretionary bonus or equity package. Check with production personnel to ensure we can produce what is specified. * Determine the most cost-effective materials for Sales to quote to meet the various project requirements and forward that information to Sales Management and/or TM's. Also make Sales Management, TM's, and Technical Services Management aware of any specification or plan provisions that will be difficult or impossible to meet or would expose CEMEX to additional liability so they can determine how best to proceed. * Help Sales set realistic customer expectations, advise Sales of which materials for the quote are readily available and which ones will require lead times to produce or to generate required back up data (i.e., trial or test batches, non-standard aggregates that require different screens to produce, warm mix asphalt that requires equipment we don't have, etc.) * Work with Sales and customers to determine which projects have to potential or willingness to consider alternative or value engineered materials/mixes which will save the customer and or project time and or money, while at the same time increasing the value of choosing CEMEX as their supplier. * Once CEMEX has been awarded a project, prepare the required submittals along with all necessary documentation and give them to the customer's TM. * Maintain and update the database with all current mixes, materials, and back up documentation, and supervise the clerical person inputting test results. * As required by Technical Services Manager, attend pre-placement and other contractor meetings. * As required by Technical Services Manager, assist in materials testing on projects or in the production plants. * Ability to perform as a manager of job responsibilities on assigned projects. Daily pre and post-inspection of the working area safely maintaining work areas with adequate berms and roadways. Follow correct loading practices. Maintaining the quality of product stockpiles. Safe work around conveyors and surge piles at all times. Maintain safe working speeds and promote the leadership of truck drivers. What You'll Do: Promote Safety. In accordance with MSHA and Vulcan standards, take an active role in prioritizing safety throughout the operation for yourself and others at all times. Repair and Maintain Plant Equipment. Perform repairs and maintenance throughout the plant including screen changes, conveyor belt repair and adjustment, wear parts replacement, crusher liner changes, and water pump service. Perform cutting, grinding, and welding as needed. Inspect Equipment and Structures. Perform daily inspections and maintenance of plant equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operations, maximize production, and minimize interruptions. Monitor Processes and Materials. Monitor and review the plant, specifically various aggregate crushing, washing, and screening areas to identify problems and ensure safety and materials compliance. Document and Record Information. Enter and maintain service and lubrication reports for the plant equipment used to ensure up-to-date preventative maintenance. Perform General Physical Activities. Perform a variety of tasks that assist with the operation of the plant, including cleaning, washing, sweeping, and shoveling materials. Additional Responsibilities. Other duties as assigned. Skills You'll Need: Experience. Previous experience in the aggregate or construction industry is preferred. Knowledge of Best Practices. Knowledge of general principles and practices of industrial maintenance, construction, or aggregate production is preferred. Flexibility. Must be able to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands. Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises. This range is not inclusive of our discretionary bonus or equity package. General Summary This position is responsible for assisting construction engineering operations to ensure construction work complies with all engineering standards. Essential Job Accountabilities * Interpret design/drawings for takeoff and workforce for bidding and building construction projects. * Prepare and distribute all required documentation such as status reports, punch lists describing work items to be done, sketches of work already completed, material requirement calculations, to supervisor. * Provide technical support and direction regarding project materials meeting specifications, delivery dates and construction schedules. * Assist with change orders and estimates by preparing drawing and sketches to support estimating and construction work to meet changing job requirements. * Develop job essential data including quantity take-offs and material pricing to ensure accurate estimates and bids. * Maintain accurate records of quantities for work performed and materials installed for cost controls on construction projects. Education * Must have High School Diploma or GED and be working towards a bachelor's degree Field of Study * Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred, of technical training and related experience Work Experience * 0 - 2 years construction estimating support, engineering, field support, or similar experience Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * Proficiency with all MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) * Ability to perform trigonometric calculation either manually or with a calculator. * Ability to assume responsibility, interface and communicate effectively with others.
