Who will you be working with?
This Chicago location provides energy management systems to the Freight Car Market; Draft Gears, Slack Adjusters, Handbrakes, Spherical Articulated Connectors, TMX/UBX Truck Mounted Brake Systems.

As a member of the Chicago location of Wabtec, you will be responsible for production of quality products. You will assemble metal products, such as draft gears, slack adjusters, handbrakes, or hydraulic cylinders, partially or completely, working at a bench or on the shop floor by performing the following duties.

What will your typical day look like?
Positions parts according to knowledge of unit being assembled or following blueprints.
Fastens parts together with bolts, screws, speed clips, rivets, or other fasteners.
Removes small quantities of metal with hand files and scrapers to produce close fit between parts.
Operates drill presses, punch presses, or riveting machines to assist in assembly operation.
Disassembles draft gears, slack adjusters, handbrakes for salvage of parts.
Ensures areas are maintained according to 5S principles.
Performs all duties of Material Handler or Laborer.

Job Summary

The Assembler is responsible for production of various components and processes related to the company's manufacturing contracts at the Sandusky Plant, Fremont Plant or Bellevue Plant. Typical tasks include assembly of parts, bagging of literature or hoses, sorting, and some tasks require operating simple machinery. The Assembler is expected to meet production goals and quality standards set by Goodwill and its customers.
Essential functions:
· Work with facility management in maintaining an efficient flow of product (restocking, assembly line, weighing, preparation of product for shipments, etc).
· Maintain a good attendance record.
· Maintain work area in a neat and orderly manner.
· Work with supervisor in solving problems while remaining flexible in adjusting to changes in operation and scheduling requirements.
· Communicate with supervisor about any shortage of materials or necessary services.
· Prepare paperwork as required for materials shipped or delivered after establishing accurate amounts.
· Perform contract work in an accurate, neat and thorough manner as described by work instructions and supervisor.
· Neatly and legibly complete necessary paperwork for individual (personal) daily production totals and quality reports as necessary.
· Utilize payroll software for clocking in and out.
· Work with supervisor in accepting daily work assignments in order to meet production requirements.
· Complete assembly as required by individual contract specifications.
· Ensure that product meets both company and customer quality standards.
· Attend safety trainings and follow all safety procedures and protocols to ensure a safe and supervised work environment for all employees at all times.
· Promote positive teamwork among co-workers.
· Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and required skills:
· Ability to use physical exertion such as prolonged periods of standing, walking, recurring bending, reaching and climbing; ability to lift 25 to 50 lbs.
Education and experience:
· High school diploma or GED preferred.
· One year experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.

- Following a pre-established schedule for assembly and installation of electronic and related electro-mechanical systems found on transit vehicles. Including those associated with propulsion, train control, pneumatic supply and brake control, air conditioning, annunciation, communications, door control, lighting, and auxiliary electrical supply.
- Performs modifications to rail vehicle electronic and electro-mechanical systems, as directed by engineering and supervisory staff.
- Works with engineering and other production staff regarding modifications.
- Uses diagnostic test equipment and precision measuring devices in the course of the work; may fabricate new testing equipment as required for use on new components and systems.
- Performs secondary dismantling and repair of electronic and electro-mechanical systems.
- Works closely with transit vehicle mechanics in performing primary repairs.

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications
