Northeast Power is a transmission cooperative delivering power to northeast Missouri and southeast Iowa. This is a paid summer internship starting in May 2026 and ending in August 2026. Design, manage and produce right of way and construction roadway plans for a wide range of transportation projects using automated engineering and design software. Maintain strong skills in new design technology and construction methodology. Provide technical advice, guidance and training regarding assigned engineering program areas. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to: Allocate resources and develop schedules for hydraulic engineering projects to deliver within budget and on time. Develop and review bridge hydraulic studies including 1D and 2D modeling, bridge scour analyses and preliminary bridge layouts; culvert studies; FEMA floodplain and regulatory floodway modeling; coastal and storm surge modeling; design and/or modeling of miscellaneous drainage structures. QA/QC internal and external hydraulic studies to ensure projects comply with local, state and federal regulations and standards. Train developing engineers in bridge hydraulics, culvert design and design of additional drainage structures. Assist the District Eng Hydraulics to meet drainage design requirements. Support roadway, maintenance and bridge design staff in hydrology and hydraulic principles and design. Develop and design hydraulic models and drainage design elements of right of way and construction roadway plans. Review hydrologic and hydraulic design for drainage facilities prepared by others. Review projects with a specific focus. Oversee hydraulics related issues complying with processes, schedules, budgets, design criteria, standards and specifications. Provide technical advice, guidance and training regarding assigned engineering program areas. Prepare analyses, reports, and recommendations based on engineering determinations. Provide engineering support and consultation related to engineering program area. Effectively manage assigned projects to ensure timely and accurate completion. Communicate with internal VDOT staff, local government staff, consultants, citizens and FHWA regarding transportation projects and programs. How you will contribute: Analysis and Technical Reporting: Analyze and interpret engineering data and information. Prepare complete, clear and concise reports and recommendations. Hydraulic Investigations and Designs: Investigate, evaluate, design and recommend solutions for drainage problems resulting from construction, maintenance and citizen complaints. Meet with individuals and organizations involved and coordinate activities.
