Auto-ApplyPrincipal Product Manager, Science
Redwood City, CA jobs
The Team
CZI supports the science and technology that will make it possible to help scientists cure, prevent, or manage all diseases by the end of this century. While this may seem like an audacious goal, in the last 100 years, biomedical science has made tremendous strides in understanding biological systems, advancing human health, and treating disease.
Achieving our mission will only be possible if scientists are able to better understand human biology. To that end, we have identified four grand challenges that will unlock the mysteries of the cell and how cells interact within systems - paving the way for new discoveries that will change medicine in the decades that follow:
Building an AI-based virtual cell model to predict and understand cellular behavior
Developing state-of-the-art imaging systems to observe living cells in action
Instrumenting tissues to better understand inflammation, a key driver of many diseases
Engineering and harnessing the immune system for early detection, prevention, and treatment of disease
CZI's work in science includes grantmaking programs, open-source software development, and close collaboration with the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Network. The CZ Biohub Network includes the San Francisco, Chicago, and New York Biohubs as well as the Chan Zuckerberg Imaging Institute. CZI also collaborates with institutional partners like the Kempner Institute for the Study of Natural & Artificial Intelligence at Harvard University. Join us in accelerating science.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Principal Product Manager with deep expertise in biology to lead the development of AI-powered workflows that accelerate scientific discovery. In this role, you will partner with scientists to translate research needs into scalable products that integrate AI models into real-world experimental workflows.
As part of the Science Technology (SciTech) team, you will shape products that empower computational and experimental researchers to use AI for in silico experimentation, hypothesis generation, data interpretation, and biological modeling. You will work across disciplines to identify high-impact opportunities where AI can meaningfully accelerate scientific progress, and translate them into impactful, scalable tools integrated within the CZI Virtual Cells Platform.
Examples include:
Multi-modal workflows for users to run inference on models with their own data (e.g., annotation, healthy vs. disease comparisons).
Tools to run and visualize in silico experiments using AI models, e.g. simulate how specific gene knockouts affect cell behavior in a virtual T-cell model.
A visualization library for exploring multi-dimensional biological imaging data.
Enabling the use of AI agents that assist experimental biologists in designing experiments by integrating prior datasets, model predictions, and literature insights.
What You'll Do
Define and drive the product strategy for AI-powered biological workflows to enable in silico experimentation.
Collaborate with scientific partners to deeply understand research needs and translate them into high-impact model applications, bridging the gap between cutting-edge AI research and its real-world application in biological discovery.
Lead the development and deployment of workflows that bring cutting-edge models into biologists' research practices.
Partner with AI PMs, ML researchers, engineers, and designers to integrate models into intuitive, impactful tools.
Help shape model roadmaps and value propositions by working closely with CZI's ML researchers.
Collate and translate the needs of the CZ Imaging research teams into a platform strategy.
Serve as the voice of the biologist in product development, ensuring tools align with experimental research needs.
What You'll Bring
12+ years of product management or related experience, with a strong background in genomics, imaging, immunology, or other relevant biological domains.
Experience in computational biology and/or applying AI models for in silico workflows.
Proven track record of partnering with scientists to develop domain-specific tools or platforms.
Ability to translate complex biological research needs into product requirements and workflows.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams and external partners.
Excellent communication skills, able to bridge biology and technology for diverse audiences.
Passion for CZI's mission and a desire to drive scientific progress through technology.
(nice to have) Experience working with cutting-edge biological imaging technology.

This role includes ownership of features that support **mobile app experiences** for drivers and operators - making sure the tools they use on the road are intuitive, reliable, and built with their real-world needs in mind. Whether it's emissions reporting or daily vehicle checks, you'll help deliver functionality that works where it matters most.
**What You Will Do:**
+ Translate customer needs into user stories that are clear, actionable, and occasionally poetic.
+ Coordinates with product development engineers to track and communicate design, development, support, and maintenance problems and solutions.
+ Identifies, documents, and reports design, reliability and maintenance problems and bugs. Gathers and consolidates feedback from customers and field staff.
+ Coordinates with field support specialists and customers to address and resolve problems and expand product usage.

+ **User Acceptance Testing (UAT):** Extensive knowledge of UAT activities, tasks, tools and techniques; ability to design, implement and evaluate acceptance tests for end-users.
**Considerations For Top Candidates:**
We're looking for someone who's ready to level up - not entry-level, but not yet leading the charge solo. To stand out, you should be able to **demonstrate experience** in:
+ **Full-Fleet Knowledge** : You've worked with or supported products related to commercial vehicles, fleet operations, or transportation systems.
+ **Regulatory Awareness** : You've had exposure to emissions standards, compliance reporting, or similar regulatory frameworks - and you understand why they matter.
+ **Customer-Focused Problem Solving** : You've helped translate customer needs into product features, especially in complex or regulated environments.
+ **Data-Informed Decision Making** : You've used data to guide product choices, validate assumptions, and measure success.
+ **Team Collaboration** : You've worked across disciplines to deliver solutions, and you know how to keep everyone aligned (even when the rules change mid-sprint).
If you've got a few wins under your belt and are excited to tackle real-world challenges in fleet compliance, we'd love to hear from you - especially if you've ever said, "There's got to be a better way to do this," and then built it.
