Wagner Equipment Co., the Caterpillar dealer for Colorado, New Mexico, and far west Texas, is seeking a highly skilled Mining Field Service Technician to support operations at the American Gypsum Mine Site. This is a full-time field position requiring advanced troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of CAT equipment in a demanding mining environment.
As part of our Field Service team, you will work independently, travel as needed, and serve as a trusted technical resource to our mining partner-all while upholding Wagner's high standards for safety, service, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
* Independently diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair Caterpillar equipment at the mine site
* Read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics to ensure accurate repairs
* Use Caterpillar software systems (ET, SIS, STW) to complete diagnostics and service documentation
* Communicate effectively with customers and internal teams regarding repair status, recommendations, and warranty determinations
* Maintain accurate, legible service reports and daily truck and crane inspection logs
* Ensure proper safety practices and compliance with MSHA and OSHA regulations
* Maintain all tooling and equipment in a safe and operational condition
* Safely operate and drive service truck (Class A CDL required)
* Support and mentor junior technicians as needed
* Work schedule is Monday-Friday, 6:00 AM - 5:00 PM; hours may vary depending on customer needs. Overtime is expected and may be frequent.
* Travel up to 75% may be required based on job needs
Minimum Qualifications:
* High School Diploma or GED
* 5+ years of experience working on heavy equipment (Caterpillar preferred)
* 3+ years of experience performing diagnostics and repairs on highway trucks
* 3+ years of experience working on mining equipment such as mills, and crushing and screening systems
* Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Required
* MSHA Certification (or ability to obtain prior to hire)
* Completion of CAT-specific courses or equivalent technical training
* Proficient with diagnostic software tools: CAT ET, SIS Web, and STW
* 3+ years of customer service experience
* Basic proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and DBS
* Must be a resident of the Gypsum area or willing to relocate

In this role, you will be responsible for the inspection, installation, repair, and optimization of Powder Packaging and Freeze-Drying Equipment. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise across mechanical, electrical, and automation systems, with proven experience in troubleshooting, system upgrades, and customer training. This position involves extensive travel across North America, with occasional international assignments as required.
Key Responsibilities
Perform detailed inspections, repairs, testing, and optimization of Powder Packaging and Freeze-Drying Equipment.
Install new equipment, including both mechanical and electrical components, ensuring safe and efficient startup.
Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and automation issues, including PLC, HMI, and communication systems.
Prepare clear and accurate inspection and service reports for both internal and external stakeholders.
Recommend and execute system upgrades, retrofits, and optimizations to enhance performance and reliability.
Independently or collaboratively install automation, mechanical, and combined system upgrades with high technical precision.
Estimate labor time for service calls, rebuilds, installations, commissioning, and training sessions.
Provide hands-on technical training to customers on equipment operation, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Your Profile / Qualifications
Qualifications and Skills
Certification or equivalent experience in Automated Packing Machinery, Automation/Controls, or a related field.

Proven ability to write and modify PLC code (Rockwell) and develop or adjust HMI screens.
Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, including experience using standard tools and diagnostic equipment.
Knowledge of 3-phase motor wiring, 120VAC power/communication, and 24VDC control systems.
Familiarity with industrial networking and communication protocols such as Ethernet and DeviceNet.

Field Service Automation Engineer is responsible for providing top level service to Powell customers that will ensure repeat business and total customer satisfaction in the Automation space! Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge in SCADA systems using WonderWare InTouch, Allen Bradley Factory Talk, Copa-Data Zenon, Siemens WinCC, and/or SEL RTAC HMI
Knowledge of configuration files using various manufactures such as SEL, GE, Siemens and Beckwith.
Exhibit working knowledge of advanced electrical industry manufacturing standards & electrical systems, working knowledge of both factory testing standards and NETA MTS & ATS standards.
Specific standards include sections of ANSI IEEE C37 applicable to the design and manufacture of breakers and switchgear.
Specific knowledge of the following: ANSI IEEE device function numbers; ampacities of electrical conductors in switchgear applications; electrical air and surface creepage clearance requirements.
Demonstrate knowledge of basic electrical theory and control circuits i.e.: Ohm's Law; Advanced AC and DC theory; contactor and circuit breaker schematics.
Demonstrate knowledge of basic distribution protective relay testing, hi-pot testing, and breaker function testing. i.e.: testing of over-current and motor protection relays with current injection; acceptance testing of dielectric apparatus using over voltage testing; primary current injection of circuit breakers; mechanical and electrical functional testing of circuit breakers; HV substation, generation testing.

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
Previous Cargill experience
Prior food safety knowledge or experience
Experience using a computer for data entry or documentation

Wagner Equipment Co., the Caterpillar dealer for Colorado, New Mexico, and far west Texas, is seeking a highly skilled Mining Field Service Technician to support operations at the American Gypsum Mine Site. This is a full-time field position requiring advanced troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of CAT equipment in a demanding mining environment.
As part of our Field Service team, you will work independently, travel as needed, and serve as a trusted technical resource to our mining partner-all while upholding Wagner's high standards for safety, service, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
* Independently diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair Caterpillar equipment at the mine site
* Read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics to ensure accurate repairs
* Use Caterpillar software systems (ET, SIS, STW) to complete diagnostics and service documentation
* Communicate effectively with customers and internal teams regarding repair status, recommendations, and warranty determinations
* Maintain accurate, legible service reports and daily truck and crane inspection logs
* Ensure proper safety practices and compliance with MSHA and OSHA regulations
* Maintain all tooling and equipment in a safe and operational condition
* Safely operate and drive service truck (Class A CDL required)
* Support and mentor junior technicians as needed
* Work schedule is Monday-Friday, 6:00 AM - 5:00 PM; hours may vary depending on customer needs. Overtime is expected and may be frequent.
* Travel up to 75% may be required based on job needs
Minimum Qualifications:
* High School Diploma or GED
* 5+ years of experience working on heavy equipment (Caterpillar preferred)
* 3+ years of experience performing diagnostics and repairs on highway trucks
* 3+ years of experience working on mining equipment such as mills, and crushing and screening systems
* Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Required
* MSHA Certification (or ability to obtain prior to hire)
* Completion of CAT-specific courses or equivalent technical training
* Proficient with diagnostic software tools: CAT ET, SIS Web, and STW
* 3+ years of customer service experience
* Basic proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and DBS
* Must be a resident of the Gypsum area or willing to relocate
