The pros of working at Wallenius Wilhelmsen are limited. They have excellent benefits options - best insurance I have ever had. The work is interesting, always something new so boredom/monotony is rare
In my experience, the cons of working for Wallenius Wilhelmsen far outweigh the pros. I have personally witnessed management flat out lying to get employees written up then fired. HR does not care at all the employees or about the whole picture of a situation even when faced with proof of the lies spun by the supervisor who created the write up - it's still taken as gospel and will not listen to anything to the contrary, and there are no appeals rights if you are accused of an indiscretion that is baseless and false, even when proof of the lie is evident.. They do not address perceived "issues" in real time, so the employee is genuinely unaware there was any type of problem or given a chance to correct it. Instead they wait for a write up opportunity and genuinely blindside employees with ambiguous "issues" that had never been discussed, and even worse, after years of working together seamlessly following one way of operating to then completely flip it on it's head only to then be in trouble for something that was previously the considered correct and proper procedure . The company proclaims to care a great deal for their employees but I found the opposite to be true. Management will set unrealistic, unattainable or outright impossible tasks because they genuinely do not understand what their own team does, then scold you for failing to meet the task - even if you explained from the beginning why their request is not possible, but offered alternatives; your opinions and knowledge will be immediately dismissed if it doesn't align with their goals and by doing so, create considerable issues within other departments and company cashflow. . The pay ranges are well below industry standards. The schedule is supposed to be 40 hours a week, but your workload will regularly require 50% more time than that and Overtime pay is not allowed. Employees also get in trouble for working too many hours, despite it not costing them more, and blame it on "poor time management" rather than having any understanding of their roles, the time it takes, what goes into it all, etc. I would not work for this company again.
My favorites benefits of working for WW was the ability to work remotely and their healthcare packages.
Nothing
Integrity. Honesty. Transparency. An actual written procedure for how disciplinary actions should be handled so the employees know their rights and options. There is absolutely no official training of any kind of training, to my knowledge, offered by the company, it's a sink or swim attitude. Salaries should be increased to at least match area and industry standards. Firing or disciplining managers who outright lie in order to spin a story based on nothing except feeling threatened for any number of reasons. Management also needs to put their loyalty and efforts into ensuring procedures are created and done in accordance with what is best for the Company, not their individual interests - especially in areas they do not understand at all.
I prepared for the interview by researching the company history, the job requirements for the position I was applying for and how they related to my prior work experience. Expressing an eagerness to be an asset to the company and excel in whatever task is assigned.
In my experience, the compensation at WW is well below the industry average.
In my opinion, and in the limited scope of the group I worked with, there was almost no diversity - however, the company is global and I can only speak on my own experience.
The most fulfilling aspect of my work with WW was building relationships with my co-workers in finance and my co-workers in Operations. I learned so much from my colleagues, not management or any standardized training but the Co does have some great people.
I like the environment.
I do no not like Shortage of hours/ job security .
This job provides great pay rate.
