What is a warehouse assistant manager and how to become one

When a company has a large warehouse that requires constant supervision, a warehouse assistant manager is there to provide backup, leadership, and support. As the primary liaison between the employees and warehouse manager, they're also there to answer general questions, help on difficult projects, and ensure the warehouse is being operated efficiently and safely.

While communication and leadership skills are two of the most important traits a warehouse assistant manager can have, having a thorough understanding of safety procedures and guidelines is another requirement. While many companies will require a safety certification before even allowing an employee to step on the warehouse floor, the warehouse assistant manager should be able to take this one step further and know safety procedures off-hand with the ability to anticipate and resolve potential issues before they become a hazard.

While some companies will allow someone with a high school diploma/GED to become a warehouse assistant manager if they have enough experience and hands-on training, this position typically requires at minimum some kind of vocational training. Safety and equipment certifications are also usually required, though this will depend on the company's size and industry. This is typically an hourly job that can range from $13 to $20 an hour.
