SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNITY:
The Senior Food and Distribution Manager reports to the Director of Foodservice and assumes the overall responsibility to develop, implement, and administer a system for the procurement, production, distribution and inventory of all purchased food, supplies, and equipment for the Foodservice Department and its operating units. In this key leadership role, you'll plan, direct, and analyze organizational processes to improve quality, productivity, and efficiency within the framework of IPS and Foodservice Department policies and procedures, USDA and Indiana Department of Education Child Nutrition Program regulations, and Department of Health requirements.
The role demands a balanced blend of leadership, communication, and organizational skills, combining high-level strategic thinking with detail-oriented oversight.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
* Supports the Director with organizational strategy, long-term initiatives, and critical objectives to align department goals.
* Assumes responsibility as a member of the senior foodservice team for planning, coordinating, and managing foodservice functional areas to ensure all standards are accomplished and maintained effectively, efficiently, and accurately. Identifies defects, recommends corrections, and implements procedural changes.
Functional areas include, but are not limited to:
* Menu planning/meal pattern compliance for all USDA programs
* Procurement practices compliant with district, state, and federal laws
* District-wide product ordering and inventory management
* Personnel management and staff professional development of direct and indirect reports
* Production and distribution processes of the IPS Foodservice Center
* Maintains knowledge of current market dynamics, industry trends, and USDA Child Nutrition Programs and meal patterns to investigate new products, coordinate product testing and assist with menu development.
* Executes purchasing contracts for food, supplies, and equipment from initiation through award. Communicates product quality specifications, projected quantities, testing results, USDA meal component information, nutrition facts, ingredients, and cost per serving.
* Administers the USDA Commodity Program within IPS, applying expertise to best utilize commodity entitlement dollars in coordination with manufacturer product availability.
* Writes all product specifications for procurement of each purchased product keeping in mind the goals and initiatives of the department and the district.
* Monitors orders, usage, prices, invoices, credits and rebates.
* Manages software system related to procurement, inventory, production, and distribution components.
* Assumes responsibility for reviews and audits from internal or external parties including the Indiana Department of Education, Indiana State Board of Accounts, or other district-appointed auditing firms, as it pertains to procurement within the Foodservice Department.
* Directs all aspects of the Food Center and warehouseoperations assuring proper receiving, storage, production, and fulfillment procedures are utilized.
* Provides leadership to the Food Center OperationsManagersin the development of policies and procedures for a clean, organized, efficient and food-safe environment.
* Monitors adherence to established standards for quality, portion sizes, and inventory control. Conducts compliance audits and initiates processes for improvement.
* Administers the distribution process of food and supplies from the Food Center and the Warehouse to operating units ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
