The Warrell Corporation company history timeline
Founded in 1957 as Pennsylvania Dutch Candies Company, Warrell Corporation at first made butter mints but soon added licorice, lollipops, and milk chocolate items.
The company was established in 1965 by Lincoln Warrell, originally named Pennsylvania Dutch Candies.
1965: The Journey Begins Similar to most great American business success stories, our company now known as the Warrell Corporation rose from humble beginnings.
Milestone events in our history were the acquisition of Katharine Beecher Candies in 1974, followed by Melster Candies nearly a decade later.
1982: Melster Candies is acquired.
Pennsylvania Dutch Candies generated some $30 million in sales in 1998.
The operations of Pennsylvania Dutch Candies and Beecher were consolidated in the new plant, which opened in 2000.
Lincoln Warrell has continued as the company's Chairman and CEO. In 2001, Warrell was inducted into the National Confectionery Sales Association's Candy Hall of Fame.
In a 2004 profile in Candy Industry, he recalled his first day at work: "They had brought up an old and quite dirty wooden desk, which had been in storage, and placed it in a shared office for me.
2004: Melster Candies is sold.
In 2005, he was awarded Candy Industry Magazine's Kettle Award.
In 2010, the company began contract-manufacturing Bonomo's Turkish Taffy.
In early 2013, the company announced that it had sold three of its brands to the Texas-based Atkinson Candy Company.
In 2013, Warrell Corp. representatives announced the company would be supporting Pennsylvania Senator Pat Toomey's bill to "end sugar market controls and subsidies". Representatives of The Hershey Company have announced they would also be supporting the legislation.
