In February 1878 a meeting was held at the Cutlers' Hall seeking support for a proposal to set up a girls’ school in Sheffield.
On 12 March 1878 the school accepted its first 39 pupils in its town-centre premises, the old Surrey Street Music Hall.
In 1917 the school purchased Moor Lodge to be used as a girls' boarding house.
In 1939 with the onset of war, the school was evacuated to Cliff College, Calver, Derbyshire.
To celebrate the school's 125th Birthday in 2003, the school had a giant party.
