Washington Mills company history timeline

1868

Founded in 1868, Washington Mills began as Washington Mills Emery Manufacturing Company.

1929

In 1929 the company updated and expanded its facilities in North Grafton, MA to process fused electro-minerals.

1979

Washington Mills Ceramics, a division of Washington Mills Company, was founded in 1979 to produce ceramic tumbling media for the mass finishing industry.

1980

In 1980 it installed a new greenfield aluminum oxide fusion plant and modern refractory grain crushing and grading plant in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

1986

Washington Mills further expanded its furnacing, crushing, and grading capabilities through the acquisition of three distinct facilities from The Carborundum Company in 1986.

2001

Rounding out its portfolio of abrasive products, Washington Mills enlarged its ceramic media production through the purchase of Wisconsin Porcelain in 2001.

2004

In 2004 Washington Mills purchased the remaining 50% interest in Washington Mills AS, thus making it a wholly-owned subsidiary of Washington Mills.

In 2004, Washington Mills Ceramics moved its operation from Lake Wales, Florida to Sun Prairie, Wisconsin to accommodate the growing company.

2007

Seeing an opportunity to expand its product knowledge, Washington Mills Ceramics Corporation established a parts processing laboratory in 2007 for new product services and product testing capabilities.
