Washington Penn history

The first crematory in the United States was built in Washington in 1876 by Francis Julius Le Moyne, who had to contend with an aroused public opinion, which forced the construction of the building at night.

The doors at Penn Commercial officially opened in 1929, when the school was launched as a business school in Washington, Pennsylvania.

In 1969, four decades after our founding and in response to the growing need for skilled workers in the area, the Washington Institute of Technology was founded and licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Private Licensed Trade Schools Board.

In 1979, Penn Commercial was incorporated into the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

By 2005, the latter move culminated in the opening of two major facilities in Mexico for the production of color concentrates and custom compounds.

Our formal introduction to the European market began through the 2009 acquisition of a color concentrate manufacturing facility in the Czech Republic, and was quickly followed by the opening of Audia Plastics – our major joint manufacturing facility in Voderady, Slovakia.

The latest exciting enhancement to our school was the opening of Toni & Guy Hairdressing Academy in May 2016.
