The $1 million Aspen Prize, awarded every two years since 2011, recognizes outstanding institutions selected from an original pool of more than 1,000 community colleges nationwide.
In 2012, Pierce College was selected as an Achieving the Dream college, a national network of more than 200 community colleges committed to student success reform.
In 2014, it changed its name again, to Seattle Central College, to reflect its status as an institution that awards four-year bachelor's degrees, in addition to two-year associate degrees and short-term certificates.
The college continues to find ways to better meet the needs of students and, in 2015, announced the launch of its first-ever bachelor of applied science degree.
Throughout the 2016-17 academic year, the college staged a series of events to honor and celebrate Seattle Central’s 50th anniversary and its extraordinary impact on the community.
