Scheduled Hours40This position assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments, including documentation and preparation of materials. More specifically, The Stallings Laboratory is seeking an energetic and highly motivated individual to assist with innovative research in the areas of microbiology and immunology that are driven towards the development of novel treatments for mycobacterial infections.
The ResearchTechnician II will be responsible for the studies involved in evaluating new compounds for antibacterial activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTMs) in bacterial cultures, in cell culture, and in mouse models of infection. In addition, the ResearchTechnician II will be responsible for the studies involved in evaluating new candidate host-directed therapies for immunomodulatory activity that result in better control of M. tuberculosis infection in cell culture and in mouse models. The position requires working in a Biosafety Level 3 laboratory and working with mice, including harvesting tissue.Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Assists with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and setup and maintenance of equipment.
Performs bacterial culturing experiments in a Biosafety Level 3 Laboratory.
Performs data entry and maintains data files on research.
Prepares tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, etc.
Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards.
The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Experimental responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Design and perform PCR assays, restriction enzyme digests, and DNA sequencing analysis
Clone DNA and propagate in bacteria
Culture and transfect mammalian cells
Perform Northern and Western blot analyses
Perform fluorescence microscopy and luciferase assays, including data analysis

Job Summary:
The Mesulam Center for Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer's Disease is a multi-departmental component of the Feinberg School of Medicine. We specialize in the clinical care and scientific study of neurological diseases that interfere with cognition and behavior. Areas of emphasis include age-related memory impairments and dementias. We are focused on normal and exceptional cognitive aging, Alzheimer's disease, Primary Progressive Aphasia and Frontotemporal Dementia. Our three interacting missions are to investigate the causes and clinical characteristics of neurodegenerative diseases, including contribution of age-related factors, to ensure that our patients are the beneficiaries of the latest research advances, and to explore the neural foundations of behavior and cognition in health and disease.

OBJECTIVE
The Research Associate 1 will oversee research projects within the lab, providing scientific oversight, guidance to lab members, and lab management in the absence of the principal investigator. The Research Associate will design and plan projects, oversee collaborations, oversee/supervise staff and students, and fully execute research projects. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Independently and with the principal investigator, design, plan, and execute research projects. Perform analysis of cell culture and in vivo experiments, using techniques, but not limited to gene expression analysis, rodent surgeries/ cell and gene delivery, histology/microscopy, stem cell generation and differentiation. Maintain accurate records of data and provide findings and recommendations to the PI based on analysis (45%).

3. With the principal investigator, establish goals and objectives for the efficient and timely completion of projects. Provide scientific oversight of all research projects, including data collection and maintenance. Establish and manage the day-to-day priorities of the research staff. Supervise and mentor research assistants and technicians. Supervise Coordinate experiments performed by other lab members, ensuring adequate resources, assisting with experimental design and analysis. Oversee progress of the research projects and provide regular progress reports to the PI; and provide input and recommendation to principal investigator regarding significant developments in research projects. Ensure the PI is informed about the results of lab members, and ensure the PI's experimental strategy is explored by lab members and through independent experiments by the Research Associate (10%).
4. Present data and findings at laboratory meetings and scientific meetings, seminars, etc. Prepare manuscripts, and contribute preliminary data for grant proposals (10%).
5. Mentor and train lab staff and graduate students; oversee research work and ensure projects are being completed according to the research plan. This will involve teaching other members of the lab techniques and scientific discovery methods, including students and post-docs. Assist and teach both established and new research techniques to other lab members to facilitate their experiments. Coordinate trainings for lab members with EHS and others as needed (10%).

Scheduled Hours 40 This position assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments, including documentation and preparation of materials. More specifically, The Stallings Laboratory is seeking an energetic and highly motivated individual to assist with innovative research in the areas of microbiology and immunology that are driven towards the development of novel treatments for mycobacterial infections.
The ResearchTechnician II will be responsible for the studies involved in evaluating new compounds for antibacterial activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTMs) in bacterial cultures, in cell culture, and in mouse models of infection. In addition, the ResearchTechnician II will be responsible for the studies involved in evaluating new candidate host-directed therapies for immunomodulatory activity that result in better control of M. tuberculosis infection in cell culture and in mouse models. The position requires working in a Biosafety Level 3 laboratory and working with mice, including harvesting tissue.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
* Assists with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and setup and maintenance of equipment.
* Performs bacterial culturing experiments in a Biosafety Level 3 Laboratory.
* Performs data entry and maintains data files on research.
* Prepares tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, etc.
* Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
* Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
* Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
* This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards.
* The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
