We have been turning the methane gas from the landfills into electricity. We are looking at opening up a few composting sites as well. Here are some "Green Facts" for you. Waste Management uses waste to create enough energy to power more than 1 million homes every year. By 2020, we expect to double that output, creating enough energy to power more than 2 million homes. As North Americas largest recycler, Waste Management managed more than 7 million tons of recyclable commodities in 2009. By the year 2020, we expect to increase the amount of material we manage to more than 20 million tons per year. By the end of 2009, Waste Management had 119 landfill-gas-to-energy projects producing 540 megawatts of power, the equivalent of powering approximately 400,000 homes. At the end of 2009, we had more than 800 natural gas-powered trucks in our fleet, with plans to add 200 more in 2010. During the year, we also used technology to reduce the fuel burn of every truck in our fleet. When fully implemented, this is expected to save 9 million gallons of fuel per year. Our wholly owned subsidiary Wheelabrator Technologies owns or operates 16 waste-to-energy plants and five independent power production facilities in the U.S. that generate enough energy to power more than 900,000 homes. Through a joint venture with the Linde Group, we have built a plant that converts landfill gas into liquefied natural gas for use as fuel in our trucks. The facility is currently producing 13,000 gallons per day. At the end of 2009, we had a total of 73 WHC-certified sites. We also set a goal to have 25,000 acres dedicated solely to nature preservation by 2020, and we have nearly reached that goal: at year-end, we had 24,000 protected acres.

We send out trucks daily to collect garbage, recycling and vegetation. Trash is sent to the incinerator where it is burned and turned into ash. The Recycling is sent to our recycling center where it is sorted and shipped out. Vegetation is sent to the landfill. The Ash is sent to the landfill. On the landfill side we have machines that compact the trash (we still get trash from other companies), sludge (poop) and other materials to make it as compact as possible to save airspace. We pipes that collect Methane gas and burn it which spins a turbine which creates electricity which is used by FPL. We spray a deodorant into the air to keep the smell down, we run a water truck that sprays water to keep dust from blowing around. We also put a layer of dirt on at night to keep any trash from blowing around. During the morning we have people pick up trash that blows around. We also repair the equipment on a regular basis. Performing inspections to make sure that the trucks are running at peek performance and are safely on the road for both the drivers and the community.

Well my dad works for the company and he told me about a position opening for a night shift parts clerk. Mainly data entry job. So I applied and they gave me the job. I do not have a degree as of yet. I have been working on an aa, very slowly. Honestly Waste Management has just about any job you would want. Security, IT, Environmental, Accounting, Drivers, Operators, Helpers, Managers, PR, Customer Service. I am personally working toward a Corp. Job managing our computer system. At the moment I work with all of the sites from Okeechobee to Key west and from Naples, East.

The trucks are treated pretty well by the drivers who care about their trucks. We do have some drivers who just do not care and let the trucks break down. Brakes are not changed that often. We do inspections on the trucks ever 150 hours, 500 hours 1500 hours and 2400 hours (each is a different area) each interval starts from the beginning and works its way up. For example a 1500 hour does 150, 500 and 1500. The ONLY time they are allowed to ride on the back of the truck is if the truck is going between 5-10 miles (can remember which). Otherwise the helpers need to be inside the cab.

I am officially a Operations Specialists Maintenance. Which means I am the Parts Manager. However, because I am so young and understand computers really well (23 years old) I kind of do everything. My bosses job, his bosses job, accountants, my job.

Mmm you get paid very well and a plus you work 57 hours a week and you don't have enough time to spend you money. You never see your family .i guess it's a plus for someone
