A Wastewater Level C Operator currently holds a Level I license ( May be in process of certification; employment is conditional on passing certification test.) Will have at least one year of acceptable operating experience. Operates mostly under supervision.
**Duties/Activities Required by Job**

+ Supervised Operation of the Water Treatment system

+ Adhere to all safety requirements, including PPE, preventing and reporting unsafe acts and conditions. Lock out Tag out procedures and Process Safety Management related matters.

+ Assists with Compliance Recordkeeping

+ Perform process control lab work

+ Maintenance of wastewater equipment

**Educations/Experience Requirements**

+ HS Diploma or equivalency

+ 1 year of acceptable operating experience

+ Active WW license Level I; may be scheduled or pending at management discretion.

Performs work as part of a team in an industrial laundry facility. Responsible for the safe, expeditious, and accurate handling of merchandise into and/or out of the laundry facility.

+ Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

Conducts hourly checks, observations, and necessary adjustments to assure proper operation of wastewater equipment; Performs chemical adjustments and calibrations to effectively maintain efficient treatment of water; Conducts daily removal and processing of waste solids generated from treatment process; Performs equipment troubleshooting, makes necessary repairs, and completes preventative maintenance and housekeeping practices for all related wastewater hardware; Performs sample collection, completes appropriate data sheets, and assures all regulatory documentation is submitted to agency; Maintains safe and clean work environment, and observes best practices in all production activities; Other duties as assigned.

+ Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Demonstrated mechanical and basic electrical aptitude; Familiar with standard maintenance procedures, preventative maintenance schedules, and proper safety techniques; Basic knowledge of industrial laundry equipment Aplus and required codes; Ability to understand all required training, written, and verbal instructions; Good verbal and/or written communication skills; Ability to work independently and as part of a team; Ability to meet attendance schedule.

+ Working Environment/Safety Requirements:

Work is performed in a warehouse setting some exposures to extreme heat and cold conditions as well as dust and noise. Work is based on a shift schedule. Overtime available as needed. Physical Requirements Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions; Requires the ability to routinely move, lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to 25 lbs, and occasionally up to 50 lbs; Requires bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, twisting, and lifting; Requires the use of hands for grasping and other manipulations; Requires standing and walking for long periods of time.

Required Experience:

+ MA. Grade 2 or higher Industrial Wastewater license

+ Displays mechanical and electrical aptitude

+ Possesses knowledge of required codes.

Job Description

The Wastewater Operator operates and maintains sludge, dewatering treatment, processing, disposal, and testing equipment in a wastewater treatment facility to meet permit requirements.

**PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:**

1. Tends automatic and semi-automatic machines and related equipment including pumps, engines, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers, chemical feed and odor control, and vacuum filters used to decontaminate waste water by settling, aeration, and sludge digestion.

2. Monitors control panels and adjust valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate flow.

3. Monitors flow meters, gauges, flow ratios, pressures, and related controls through the instrument panels, computer terminals, and programmable logic control units in the assigned area.

4. Monitors and records operating conditions observations and data in area shift log.

5. Ensures conformance to process specifications. Diagnoses basic operational problems and takes corrective action per procedure. Verifies and reports suspected malfunctions and variances to supervisor and take corrective actions.

6. Performs routine and preventative maintenance and maintenance-related items as assigned. To include manual labor filling and emptying of machine bins and cleaning equipment, facilities, and grounds as required. Practices good housekeeping in assigned areas and properly disposes of waste according to safety and environmental policies.

7. Operates vehicles for plant operational purposes.

8. Performs field tests (chemical, physical and biological) in order to pace chemical dosages

for process and odor control units or alter unit processes.

9. Samples wastewater, sludge, and gases (odor control, digester, etc.) according to schedule.

10. Prepares chemical solutions and services automatic samplers.

11. Monitors process chemical supplies and recommends reorder.

12. Performs routine lab tests, and routine instrument calibration for portable meters including, but not limited to, dissolved oxygen, pH, H2S, percent oxygen, and lower explosive limit.

Qualifications

**Education / Experience/ Background**

● CA SWRCB Grade I or above Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator

Certification

**Knowledge / Skills / Abilities**

● Must have the ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process,

safety, and quality instructions). The ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

● Must demonstrate the ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume

additional or new responsibilities readily.

● Must be able to serve rotational 24-hour emergency on-call as required by the site.

● Knowledge and skills in the processes and methods of wastewater treatment, bio-solids

handling programs, air emissions systems and standards, laboratory standard methods

for water and wastewater, and operation and maintenance procedures for related

equipment.

● Knowledge of pertinent federal, state, and local laws pertaining to wastewater treatment

facilities with an NPDES permit.

● Ability to handle emergency situations with proper training.

● Ability to provide first aid, CPR, and use SCBA equipment.

● Strong mechanical and technical aptitude.

● Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with clients, the public, and

employees

● Ability to organize and manage assigned work tasks, respond appropriately to

emergency situations, and accurately record facility readings, incidents, etc.

● Ability to operate within a team atmosphere including direction of staff assigned to the

Shift Supervisor's work shifts.

● Ability to shift priorities frequently and effectively perform under pressure.

● Ability to operate a computer, typewriter, and other office machines as needed. Skills in

Microsoft Office Suite and SCADA systems.

● Ability to work a 10 or 12-hour shift schedule which involves night and weekend work.

**Required Certification / Licenses / Training**

●Must possess a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.

●Must be able to pass a drug test and a criminal background check.
