Wastewater DAF & Centrifuge Operator

Position Title: Wastewater DAF & Centrifuge Operator
Reports to: Rendering Superintendent
Duration/Usual Hours Per Week: Full-Time, 40 to 48 Hours Per Week.
Shift/Work Days: 1st Shift, 5-6 days per week

Duties and Responsibilities of the Job:
Wastewater DAF & Centrifuge Operator is primarily a day shift position but will have some time on 2nd shift to finish up the process, clean and CIP the centrifuge. Availability to work other shifts to cover vacations and absences is required. The operator will be required to load the grease onto tanker trailers.
Desired abilities include, but are not limited to: Operation of horizontal / vertical centrifuges; Operation of screening equipment; Operation of Wastewater Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) system and skimmers; Loading of grease onto a tanker trailer; Adjustment of process chemicals as required; Adjustment of steam valves; basic preventative maintenance; forklift operation; understanding and operating touch screen controls and performing clean-in-place (CIP) procedures. The position interacts and must communicate effectively with other plant operations & maintenance personnel.
The position will also require participation and responsibility in all company safety, food safety and environmental management programs.
Required Skills:
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Basic Computer Skills.
Experience / Qualifications:
Prior wastewater experience preferred but not required.
Ability to multi-task.
Ability to understand and operate touch screen-controlled equipment.

**General Summary**

This position controls treatment plant machines and equipment to purify and clarify water. Coordinates all maintenance and repair work and outages in a manner that minimizes the disruption of potable water services.

**Essential Duties**

+ Operates and controls electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate flow of raw water into treating plant.

+ Dumps specified amounts of chemicals such as chlorine, ammonia, and lime into water, or adjusts automatic devices that admit specified amounts of chemicals into tanks to disinfect, deodorize, and clarify water.

+ Mixes chemicals and allows impurities to settle to bottom of tank, turns valves to regulate water through filter beds to remove impurities, pumps purified water into water mains, monitors panel board and adjusts controls to regulator flow rates, loss of head pressure and water elevation and distribution of water.

+ Cleans tanks and filter beds, using backwashing, repairs and lubricates machines and equipment, using hand- and power tools, tests water samples to determine acidity, color, and impurities.

+ May operate portable water-purification plant to supply drinking water, and purify wastewater from plant preparatory to pumping water into rivers and streams or city mains.

+ Performs other duties as assigned.

**Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements**

+ Must have a minimum of two years experience in a similar role.

+ Experience in similar plants and systems.

+ Must possess or received through reciprocity a current/valid operator's certificate equivalent to the highest water certification grade/class level issued by the Water Works Operators Certification Board of Examiners or from reciprocity from applicable state.

+ Must have a valid, current driver's license.

**Work Environment**

+ Regular exposure to extreme temperatures, wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes and airborne particles, loud noises, chemicals, etc.

+ Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, reaching, and use of hands; regularly lifting and/or moving up to 25 lbs. and occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 50 lbs.

+ Requires use of hand and power tools applicable to trade.

+ Ability to maneuver a job site, including small spaces in around equipment
