The Enabling Capabilities group within Small Molecule Discovery and Development (SMDD) at CortevaAgriscience is looking for a highly motivated Purification Chemist to join our Compound Purification Laboratory team at the Corteva Indianapolis Global Business Center. The SMDD group at Corteva Agriscience represents a sizeable portion of our R&D innovation engine working towards sustainable crop protection solutions. We are looking for scientists for our SMDD Enabling Capabilities group who can work as part of a multidisciplinary team to discover, develop and launch our crop protection pipeline.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing methodology for purification of small molecules to support crop protection discovery and development projects. This individual will apply their separations expertise to problem-solve a variety of challenges while collaborating cross-functionally. Responsibilities:

+ Design & execute purification methods to support Discovery Chemistry, Discovery Process Sciences, and Analytical R&D. Understand the broad objectives of each project & their significance to adapt experimental workflows when required.

+ Innovate with your team members at the interface of organic chemistry & analytical sciences to optimize workflow to expediate the discovery and development project pipeline.

+ Solve complex small molecule separation challenges through collaboration with cross-functional analytical teams.

+ Responsible for operating and troubleshooting analytical & preparative instruments such as normal or reverse phase LC SFC, & flash chromatography, with UV/ELSD/MS detectors.

+ An opportunity to develop chiral & achiral analytical methods to be translated to preparative scale.

+ Technical Ability: Must have knowledge of a broad range of analytical and preparative separation techniques and be able to generate and interpret data to independently solve complex separation problems. Must be able to work cross-functionally to deliver high quality data within timelines and to continually develop knowledge, meet project goals, and enable decisions.

+ Innovation: A key deliverable of the job is to innovate. The individual must be able to problem solve within the analytical and preparative separations space and creatively apply existing and new separations methods and technology.

+ Interpersonal Effectiveness: All projects are conducted in a team-based environment. Success is achieved through the effective leveraging of cross-functional knowledge. The individual must interact well with others and be able to build and sustain effective relationships within and outside the Compound Purification Lab team.

+ Customer Focus: Must be able to build strong customer relationships and deliver customer-centric solutions.

+ Initiative: Must drive results independently as well as in teams. Must show initiative in planning and execution to meet defined goals.

+ Teamwork: All projects are managed by teams of varying size. Must be able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide separations expertise to advance projects.

Qualifications

+ Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related discipline preferred. BS with 10+ or MS with 7+ years industrial experience in separation sciences will be considered.

+ Demonstrated understanding and application of separations methodology development, sample preparations and analysis.

+ Demonstrated ability to operate and troubleshoot analytical & preparative instruments such as normal & reverse phase LC or SFC, & flash chromatography with UV/ELSD/MS detectors.

+ Ability to effectively interact and collaborate with multidisciplinary and cross-functional teams to solve separations problems.

+ Strong scientific creativity, analytical and problem-solving skills, and demonstrated customer focus.

+ Excellent oral and written communication and prioritization skills; ability to effectively communicate in a team environment.
