Adjunct instructor job at Waukesha County Technical College
Under general supervision, the primary responsibility is providing classroom and lab instruction in the Fire programs offered by WCTC. Requires strong organizational skills, good communication skills, an ability to effectively deliver practical hands-on instruction and include technology in the teaching of classes, and familiarity with all aspects of the Fire and Emergency Medical Services fields. Must be accessible to students and maintain positive relationships with industry-related organizations and businesses. The successful applicant will be responsible for completing requirements to obtain and maintain a current teaching certification from the Wisconsin Technical College System Board.

Salary:
Lab and Certification Exam Instructional Rate $40/hour; Non-instructional $20/hour
Lead instructor $46 - $55/hour

* Effectively engage students in the learning environment through active learning strategies.
* Promote and coordinate professional development opportunities for Fire/EMS instructors to further develop their teaching skill.
* Increase marketing of Fire and EMS training programs and prepare competent Fire/EMS providers for local employers.
Requirements may vary according to the instructional area and position.
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent* with education or training preparing a person for the occupational area being taught. Appropriate training may include vendor, manufacturer, in-service or other structured on-the-job training in the occupation. *Educational equivalency: Occupational experience combined with education and training preparing a person for the occupation totaling 7 years or 14,000 hours shall be equivalent to a bachelor's degree. Each academic credit or equivalent credit shall be equal to 110 hours of occupational experience. (a major in a healthcare, fire service, emergency medical, or other related area is preferred; equivalency is determined by considering occupational experience and other formal education).
* Twenty-four months (4,000 hours) of verifiable occupational experience as a fully qualified worker in the occupational area, of which 2,000 hours shall be within the previous five years. One year (2,000 hours) of related occupation experience may be waived if the occupational instructor has at least two years of post-secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within five years.
* Current Wisconsin Fire and Emergency Services Instructor I Certification; FESI II Preferred
* Driver/Operator Pumper Certification Preferred
* Current Wisconsin Live Fire Instructor Certification or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
* Eligibility for WCTC Credentialing System.
* Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and instruct quality education programs.
* Technology-based, simulation, and scenario-based instruction experience desirable.
NOTE: An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired will also be considered.
This is a continuous posting. Applications will be reviewed on November 1 and June 1 each year. Teaching demonstrations/interviews will be held shortly after.
* Hours for this position will vary from Monday through Sunday including both daytime and evening hours. Adjunct instructors are expected to teach a minimum of 64 hours/semester (24 hours/summer). Instructors request instructional assignments through a scheduling software at the beginning of each semester.

* If teaching in our Law Enforcement or Jail Recruit Academies, applicants must have at a minimum completed the Department of Justice's Instructor Development course, and possess the proper certifications from the Department of Justice for the Academy topics being taught.
* Teaching or training experience is desirable.
* Ability to plan, organize, instruct, and facilitate quality education programs, including development of relevant curriculum.
* Qualified per FVTC requirements at time of, and throughout employment as an instructor. Must also meet and maintain Higher Learning Commission (HLC) requirements, Faculty Quality Assurance Standards (FQAS), and/or other job specific licensing standards.

* Ability to plan, organize, instruct, and facilitate quality education programs, including development of relevant curriculum.
* Upon hire, must maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required by other agencies to maintain individual and program accreditation, if applicable

Physical Requirements

Additional Information
Hourly pay rate: $45.00 per hour.
Pay is based on a multitude of factors, including experience, qualifications, education, relevant certifications, internal equity, and market data.

Adjunct instructors are hired on a per-course basis. The total hours for an adjunct instructor range from approximately 3 hours per week to no more than 8 hours per week. Hours vary and can include both day, evening, and weekend classes. Courses are taught in traditional classrooms and alternative delivery formats.
