The Simulator Team at Waymo builds state-of-the-art simulations of realistic environments for testing and training the Waymo Driver. You will: * Innovate and Develop: Join our world-class research engineering team to drive innovation in ultra-realistic sensor data and perception simulation for autonomous vehicles. You will develop the latest simulation technologies using 3D Gaussian Splatting, foundational models for sensor data, and traditional 3D graphics. * Lead and Scale: Lead the deployment and scaling of sensor simulation to solve some of Waymo's hardest challenges. Role Summary In this role, the Hardware Test Engineering Technician will ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of cutting-edge mechatronic systems in current and next-generation electric vehicle hardware. This person will work closely with our design engineering teams to design fixtures and execute a wide range of tests on prototypes, sub-assemblies, and production components. This is a hands-on position requiring a strong understanding of electrical and mechanical principles, meticulous attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Responsibilities Execute a variety of hardware tests including functional, performance, environmental (thermal, vibration, humidity), durability, and safety tests on vehicle components and subsystems (e.g., ECUs, battery systems, steering systems, sensors, etc.). Design, build, configure, and maintain custom test equipment, fixtures, and instrumentation Perform build, bring up, and troubleshooting of electronics and electronic assemblies, including prototypes for upcoming products and test systems (electrical/mechanical/software) Communicate directly with engineers, manager, and other technicians to ensure a high level of technical support Implement test set-ups, perform tests, collect results, and maintain appropriate logs.
