Wayne Township NJ company history timeline

1806

In the year 1806, Edenton had its first resident Jacob Style.

1820

Alongside her rest Joseph Layman’s son, the very first trustee in Wayne Township elected in 1820.

1830

1830: Saddle River Township, which includes portions that later became Wayne, reports that 14 percent of households include slaves — the highest percentage of enslaved people to property owners of any future Passaic County township.

1837

Edenton was then laid out August 12, 1837 by Silas V. Jordan.

Passaic county was founded in 1837 and named for the Passaic River.

1847

But The Wayne Museum assembled a brief history of the township that goes back further than the April 12, 1847, establishment of the township.

In 1847 the present township was incorporated and named in honour of Major General Anthony Wayne.

1855

The William Paterson College of New Jersey in Wayne was established in 1855.

1858

In the year 1858, this Lodge purchased 4 acres of land from John Fuller, a local farmer, to be reserved for a cemetery.

1869

1869: Schuyler Colfax, who led efforts to abolish chattel slavery as speaker of the House, becomes Vice President in the Ulysses S. Grant administration.

1916

1916: Electricity comes to Wayne from Paterson, with power lines running along the Hamburg Turnpike from Ratzer Road.

1922

When she was a young woman she fought to have the right to vote in this Country and went on to be one of the first women to run for office in the House of Representatives in the year 1922.

1942

Andrew Long, whose body was brought back to Edenton in the year 1942.

1969

1969: The Willowbrook Mall opens as the world's largest enclosed shopping center.

2010

The 2010 census reported 4,885 people living in the township, 4,493 of whom were in the unincorporated portions of the township.
